Children First provides services for families with children up to six years of age who are at risk for or experiencing mental health challenges or developmental concerns.

We are recruiting a talented Child and Family Consultant (Mental Health Team) to join our team on a 12-month contract position.
Job Overview:
Reporting to the Team Supervisor, the Child and Family Consultant -Mental Health Team provides family-centered services for children, birth to six years of age, with mental health concerns and their families in family and caregiver homes, and other early childhood settings.
Responsibilities:
- Provides parent, child, and family support, and skill-building intervention for children with mental health concerns and their families.
- Support family in identifying their family's needs, strengths, resources, values and culture.
- Participates with families and community partners in developing and implementing their hopes for service and their Growth and Opportunity Plan (GO Plan).
- Conducts ongoing evaluation of GO plans, through regularly scheduled reviews with families and partners.
- Provide individualized services in various environments to best meet the needs of the child and family, including but not limited to homes, EarlyONs, parks, community centres, etc.
- Assists with the child’s transition to other community services and to elementary school.
- Facilitates groups and presentations for children, parents, and community partners.
- Advocates on behalf of children and families and their needs within the community, including making referrals to other services available in the community.
- Provides formal and informal peer consultation specific to areas of expertise and competency.
- Maintains current and accurate clinical records in keeping with the Clinical Record Keeping policy.
- Participates in professional development in the field of infant and child mental health.
- Participate as an internal or external committee member representing the Mental Health Team and Children First.
- Follows the outlined rules and regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and promotes and practices safe working conditions to avoid potential injury or harm to self, any employee, or child/family in receipt of services.
- Must be accessible by cell phone whenever on duty.
- A valid driver’s license and the use of a personal vehicle are required.
- Carries out other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Child and Youth Care, Bachelor of Social Work from a recognized institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience that may include an undergraduate degree in a related health, education, or social service field.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Proficiency in a second language (French or Arabic) is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid Drivers License with 1 -Million dollar coverage insurance.
Experience:
- Understanding of family-centered principles and child development principles in relation to social-emotional development, individual psychopathology, adult learning theories, and group dynamics.
- Knowledge of the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act, and Child Care Early Years Act, and other related legislation.
Judgement and Initiative:
Moderate judgment is required in this position. Problems faced on the job are variable. Decisions are made with reference to practice guidelines and policies and procedures with unique problems referred to a supervisor.
Working Conditions:
- The position duties are carried out in the community, in caregiver homes, and other early childhood settings with some time spent in the office.
- In order to meet meet the needs of children and families, some time flexibility is expected to attend to late appointments (4:30pm to 8pm)
- The position requires moderate to considerable physical and sensory effort with activities such as standing, driving, keyboarding, concentration on visual and listening attention, and report writing.

Pay: $48,011.00-$60,005.00 per year
