We are currently seeking a Women’s Outerwear Designer who can be nice, will seek inspiration from our roots, can commit to achieving results the right way and loves to think big to join us on our journey.
The Women’s Outerwear Designer is a member of our Design team, reporting directly to the Sr. Designer, Women’s Design. This role will create seasonal custom collections keeping within Roots brand vision, seasonal direction and market needs. They need to be creative and think outside of the box contributing to the overall creative energy of the Design team.
The Women’s Outerwear Designer for Roots will be responsible for and evaluated on the following:
Initiating seasonal development packages, including momentus pages, initial spec, color, and BOMs or as directed
Managing style from development into production according to calendar deadlines
Conducting fittings & working with technical team to perfect fit
Working cooperatively across buying, graphics & merchandising
Managing day to day submissions and overseeing direct report of associate designer in the team
Competitive shopping and market trend research
Line Reviews 8 times per year. Present the initial and final line review to stakeholders
Top candidates for the Women’s Outerwear Designer role will have the following:
Minimum of 5-7 years experience in apparel design
Extensive knowledge of apparel design, garment construction, applied graphic processes and fashion cycles
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator & Photoshop)
Ability to design in their specific category keeping in mind the ROOTS design ascetic, pricing and seasonal themes.
Ability to work cooperatively within and outside the design team
Ability to share ideas and develop effective solutions to achieve the desired execution of product
Ability to effectively handle constructive feedback from colleagues and senior management
Superior organization skills
The ability to conduct fittings with a high level of technical expertise
Leadership abilities: able to manage process and people
