OPERATIONAL FINANCE CONTROLLER, SKY & POLARIS

Reporting to the Director, Operational Finance, the Operational Finance Controller, Sky & Polaris will be based in Nisku, Alberta and will oversee, manage, and provide leadership for the cost/manufacturing accounting functions at Aurora’s Sky and Polaris production facilities. The Controller will work closely with Senior Management, Production Managers, and the Operational Finance Director to articulate accounting policies, procedures, and controls, provide consistency of standards, and to provide business insight across the Canadian operations. The Controller will be required to regularly interface with managers, contractors, and production team members, and oversee facility Site Accountants and Excise Stamp Coordinators to maintain accurate, up to date information on manufacturing costs, continuous improvement, and business analysis.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Partner with the facility General Managers, providing financial insight and analysis to support business decisions related to cost management, internal controls including SOX requirements, efficiency improvements and effective use of ERP systems.
  • Lead the facility Site Accountants and foster a culture of continuous improvement in inventory and regulatory reporting, cost analysis, and management of the control environment
  • Lead the facility Excise Stamp Coordinator to ensure effective internal control of excise duty stamps and accuracy of excise duty reporting
  • Develop standard product costs and ensure effective and timely analysis of variances against standards
  • Work closely with the Procurement team to achieve the vision of low cost, high quality production
  • Collaborate with Financial Planning & Analysis in developing forecasts and budgets for the Sky and Polaris facilities
  • Work with Operations to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control current processes which impact stakeholder reporting quality and influence internal operating efficiency
  • Oversee control processes and testing, including ensuring the completion and accuracy of inventory counts and working with the Risk and Internal Audit teams to develop and maintain strong control environments at the Sky and Polaris facilities
  • Supporting new systems and projects implementations from a strategic, finance, and internal control perspective, including the launch of ERP systems
  • Other duties and initiatives as required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Ability to think strategically, problem solve, and make quick decisions
  • Experience in using technology, including ERP systems
  • Advanced skills in MS Office, particularly Excel
  • Time management and follow-up skills; highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to communicate, influence, and work effectively with a wide range of cross functional staff, including production, quality control and procurement
  • Effective team player and leader; approachable and supportive
  • Accountable for results, strives to meet and exceed expectations
  • Strong written, verbal, and communication skills
  • Able to pass a criminal background check
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
  • 10+ years’ experience working in a finance/accounting environment in a high volume, rapidly growing environment, preferably in manufacturing, agriculture, or related industry
  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior finance/accounting role (managing a department, managing budgets, developing internal controls, et cetera)
  • 3+ years’ experience with standard costs in a cost accounting/management accounting role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Accounting designation required
