The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity
Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Metallurgist at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, day shift schedule.
Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Metallurgist
Location
Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary
Reporting to the Metallurgy Superintendent, the Metallurgist is responsible for providing metallurgical support to mill operations and metallurgical department to improve performance, stability, and overall efficiency of the plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Supports operations in troubleshooting and optimizing operational circuits to achieve production targets,
- Assists mill operation supervisors in providing technical surveillance and response across the mill operation,
- Works alongside circuit operators to highlight successes and work collaboratively to capture opportunities to achieve operational targets,
- Works alongside Mill Metallurgists to provide operational background and guidance on short and long term challenges that may require additional resources,
- Conducts month end inventory reconciliation,
- Supports metallurgical trials, pilot plants and commissioning of new processing equipment,
- Performs any other responsibilities related to the Metallurgist role as required or assigned by the department head.
Education & Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Metallurgy or related industrial field,
- Working knowledge of principles and methods used in metallurgical and processing analysis and exposure to using analytical / statistical tools,
- Previous metallurgical laboratory and project management experience is an asset,
- Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

- Self- motivated and able to work with minimal supervision,
- Able to prioritize, multitask, use timelines, and time management techniques,
- Strong communicator – bridge between technical and operational teams,
- Collaborative, hands-on approach,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to dust and high noise levels,
- Work consists of a team environment with regularly scheduled and ad-hoc meetings,
- Frequent exposure to driving in congested high traffic mining and construction areas under varying weather conditions,
- Role requires the employee to walk in similar congested/high traffic construction areas as well as more remote areas on site (uneven footing is commonplace),
- Work required frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds,
- Required to be clean-shaven.
