Wapiti Community Support Association is seeking a full-time Resident Support Worker to provide day-to-day support within a substance-free transitional housing environment.
Reporting to the Program Supervisor, the Resident Support Worker helps create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for residents working toward recovery, housing stability, and greater independence. Using a housing-focused and recovery-oriented approach, the Resident Support Worker assists individuals transitioning from homelessness, treatment, correctional settings, and other circumstances where structured, substance-free housing can support their next steps.
Resident Support Workers build positive and professional relationships with residents, provide practical assistance, support daily routines and program expectations, and help residents connect with housing, recovery, healthcare, and community resources. As part of a broader recovery-oriented system of care, staff work alongside residents and community partners to support individual recovery pathways and successful transitions to long-term housing.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide respectful, non-judgmental and recovery-oriented support to residents.
- Support residents with daily routines, life skills, recovery goals, and preparation for independent living.
- Maintain a housing-focused approach that supports residents in progressing toward stable, long-term housing.
- Promote a safe, welcoming, and substance-free living environment.
- Connect residents with recovery, healthcare, housing, cultural, and other community-based supports.
- Respond appropriately to resident concerns, conflict, and emerging needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including email communication and electronic data entry.
- Work collaboratively with WCSA staff and community partners as part of a coordinated system of care.
- Complete light janitorial duties as required to maintain a safe and comfortable environment.
- Perform other duties related to resident support and program operations as required.
Position Requirements
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds and with a range of needs and experiences.
- Basic computer skills, including email and data entry.
- Ability to walk and stand for moderate periods and lift approximately 10 pounds.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and access to a vehicle.
- Satisfactory criminal record check.
- A combination of relevant education, employment, lived experience, and community experience will be considered.
This is a full-time position working 9:00am to 9:00pm or 9:00pm to 9:00am on a four days-on, four days-off rotation. Employees are expected to remain on-site during their paid meal break.
Starting wage: $24.00 per hour with benefits offered after completion of the 3-month probationary period.
