Purpose:
Launched in October 2014, York University's new School of Continuing Studies (SCS) is rapidly expanding, revenue generating enterprise. It is one of the largest and most innovative of its kind in the country. With unique course delivery models and top-quality programs, the School will increase the University's adult and international student population and will be central to the University's overall growth strategy. The School consists of two main programming divisions: (a) the English Language Institute (YUELI) that primarily offers English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs, and (b) Continuing Professional Education (CPE) that primarily offers certificate programs.
Reporting to the Director, IT, the Business Process Analyst (BPA) is responsible for the review, analysis, mapping, improvement and documentation of the business processes in the School of Continuing Studies. The incumbent will bring expertise in Lean, Six Sigma (or Lean Six Sigma) and business analysis disciplines to bear on the processes within the School, and acts as an agent of change, leveraging best practices to affect them. The incumbent will not only make recommendations on improvement of business processes but will also make recommendations to the Director as to how those business processes affect the workload, duties and responsibilities of the staff performing those duties. The incumbent will make recommendations concerning organizational structure, roles and responsibilities and the contents of staff job summaries and will work with managers to implement those changes.
Education:
University degree preferably in business, engineering or computing. Green Belt Certification or higher in Lean Six Sigma or Six Sigma. Business Analyst Training/Certification. CCBA or CBAP certification an asset. Change Management certification (e.g. ProSci/ADKAR methodology) an assets. Knowledge of Scrum and Agile Project Management an asset.
Experience:
4+ years of progressive experience in Business Analysis and/or Process (Re-)Engineering roles with project responsibilities, and a good understanding of project management methodologies, work-flow/process design and re-engineering. cost/benefit analysis for medium, large or complex systems. Thorough knowledge of system and process analysis with demonstrated experience and expertise in requirements management, process development/re-engineering and testing skills including information gathering, problem solving, and test plan creation and execution.Proven experience in process and system analysis, documentation/validation of business requirements from business users and functional specification requirements using interviews, documented analysis, tasks and workflow analysis.Experience in the development and execution of project plans, detailed task lists (project Gantt) and time estimating. Demonstrated analytical and decision-making ability. Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.Proven accuracy and attention to detail. Knowledge of collaborative systems such as Confluence and Basecamp an asset. Proficient in the use Project Management tools (MS Project, MS Visio, Wrike), Proficient in the use MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access). Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and manage work effectively in a team environment. Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple demands on time.Good knowledge of system development lifecycle, methodologies, standards, tools and techniques. Ability to identify opportunities to use technology to add value and recognize and present opportunities for adoption of process efficiencies through automation to replace existing manual work (i.e. process re-engineering). Experience in project management and system implementation processes. Experience in a Higher Education is an asset.

Primarily office environment. Significant interaction with team members via one-on-one meetings as well as leading and participating in meetings / working sessions. Computer work-research application functionality, developing process maps, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, presenting documented options, recommendations to stakeholders, status reports.

York implemented a revised CPM Compensation Framework in 2019. The Framework is a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
