Job Summary
Molly’s Meat Pies is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Assistant Cook to join our kitchen team. In this role, you will work closely with the Head Cook and ownership to prepare high-quality savory pies, fillings, and pastries. This position is ideal for someone passionate about baking, comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment, and dedicated to maintaining strict food safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
*Food Preparation & Cooking: Assist in the daily scratch-preparation of pie fillings, savory meats, gravies, and vegetable mixes according to established recipes.
Pastry & Assembly:Roll, cut, and line pie tins with dough. Assemble, portion, and top pies accurately to ensure consistent weight and appearance.
*Oven & Equipment Operation:Assist with monitoring bake times and operating commercial baking equipment (ovens, mixers, and dough sheeters) safely.
Quality & Consistency:Monitor food quality throughout the production process, ensuring ingredients are fresh and final products meet Molly’s Meat Pies standards.
Kitchen Safety & Sanitation:Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized workstation. Strictly adhere to food safety regulations, including proper temperature monitoring and allergen control.
Inventory & Storage: Assist in receiving ingredient deliveries, rotating stock using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method, and reporting low inventory levels.
*Dishwashing & Cleaning:** Share in the daily cleaning duties, including washing commercial pots, pans, utensils, and deep-cleaning kitchen surfaces at the end of the shift.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience:1–2 years of experience in a commercial kitchen, bakery, or food manufacturing environment is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate with a strong work ethic.
Food Safety Certification:Valid Food Handler Certificate (or willingness to obtain one quickly) is highly desirable.
Communication:Ability to take direction well and communicate clearly within a fast-paced team environment.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
* Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., heavy sacks of flour, large mixing bowls, or ingredient crates).
* Comfortable working around hot commercial ovens and in a warm kitchen environment.
* Flexibility to work early morning shifts, weekends, or statutory holidays as business production requires.
Pay: $16.00-$18.00 per hour
