This position is the first point of contact regarding all aspects of development and permits. It responds to a variety of questions and concerns at the counter, by e-mail and telephone from the public and internal/external stakeholders; interprets and makes recommendations with regard to a variety of City of Red Deer Bylaws including but not limited to; the Land Use Bylaw, Traffic Bylaw, Licensing Bylaw, Special Events Bylaw and Community Standards Bylaw; reviews and ensures accuracy of documentation submitted for a variety of applications including building and development permits, licensing and signs; and provides clerical and administrative support to the Safety Codes Officers relating to status of permit applications and open permits.

Job Requirements:
One (1) year certificate in a business or legal program with minimum 2 years related customer service or legal experience in construction, working with bylaws or in construction. Equivalencies may be considered.
Knowledge of zoning bylaws, compliance certificates, construction terminology and construction/development plans.
Ability to accurately type 30 wpm and input data into a computer working with various applications.
Ability to understand and communicate various bylaws, acts, manuals, etc. as required.
Ability to deal effectively face to face, over the phone and in writing with difficult customers.
Ability to work as a team player and work independently with a high degree of accuracy and in accordance with policies and procedures.
Demonstrate ability to manage time with a wide range of challenges and high volume of work with frequent interruptions and conflicting priorities.
Experience with financial software and Microsoft office applications.
Commissioner for Oaths Designation and Peace Officer status must be attainable
Ability to learn and apply various computer programs in day-to-day operations
Ability to communicate statistics or figures, zoning, development process, and make ongoing interpretations of the Land Use Bylaw, Community Standards Bylaw and other various bylaws.
Ability and creativity to take customer suggestions and provide internal feedback in order to enhance department and corporate procedures.
Ability to be innovative and assist with the creation of efficiencies and process improvements for the department.

Normal Hours of Work: 75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday.
