The Halton District School Board invites applications for
Student Well-Being Summer Wellness Initiatives Temporary Positions
Intake Child and Youth Care Practitioners - 4 positions
15 hours/week (June 22-26 (after regular working hours), June 29-July 3 (various hours))
Summer Child and Youth Care Practitioners - 12 positions
(20 hours/week, 8:00am-1:30pm June 29- July 23, 2026 (excluding Fridays))
Summer Social Worker- 6 positions
(25 hours/week M-F, 8:30am-2:00 pm June 29 - July 27, 2026 )
- All positions are subject to enrolment
These temporary positions are only open to internal permanent and LTO applicants.
The successful candidates will work as part of the Summer Wellness Initiatives at the Halton District School Board.
Areas of responsibility for Child and Youth Care Practitioners (CYC-Ps) may include:
(4) Intake CYC-Ps to organize referral and intake data, complete informed consent phone calls with parents/guardians, and to assist with organizing group materials
(8) Co-facilitating CYC-P led groups (PEERS, You are a Social Detective, Interoception, TRAILS) at Ethel Gardiner (June 29-July 9 only), Alexander’s, Hawthorne Village, and Oodenawi (June 29-July 23 excluding Fridays) and completing intake and informed consent phone calls as needed
(4) CYC-Ps to support the Summer Wellness program (Ethel Gardiner, Emily Carr, Alexander’s and Hawthorne Village) - SEL programming/learning in collaboration with the classroom teacher, as well as providing back up support to the CYC-P led groups as required and completing intake and informed consent phone calls as needed
- CYC-Ps may be hired for both intake and summer CYC-P positions
Areas of responsibility for Social Workers may include:
(2) SWs will provide Brief Individual Therapeutic Support to students in the Summer Wellness Program (Ethel Gardiner, Emily Carr, Hawthorne Village, and Alexander’s) and students enrolled in Summer School (Elsie MacGill, Garth Webb) (starting June 29, 2026)
(4) SWs will provide Single Session Support for students and parents regarding students worries about attending school and transitioning into a new school year (Elsie MacGill, Garth Webb) (starting June 29, 2026).
SWs will facilitate referrals to community agencies as needed
Assignments will be determined by Managers.
Responsibilities of HDSB Student Well-Being PSSP Positions:
Provide comprehensive, identity affirming and inclusive support to students and families
Utilize knowledge of local and regional community resources to make referrals
Maintain HDSB Social Work and Child and Youth Care Practitioner Standards of Practice for record keeping and service delivery
Social Workers will provide service in accordance with the Ontario College of Social Work Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics
Child and Youth Care Practitioners will provide service in accordance with the OACYC Code of Ethics
Qualifications :
Social Workers
The minimum education required for this position is a Master of Social Work Degree. Applicants must have a current licence with the Ontario College of Social Workers.
Child and Youth Care Practitioners
The minimum education required for this position is a 3 year, Advanced Child and Youth Counsellor diploma or equivalent. Current membership with The Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors is preferred.
A history of developing successful partnerships with students, families and community partners to support student wellbeing is required. Exemplary proficiency with google suite and current HDSB processes is required. Candidates must be able to work independently, and seek consultation/advice from Manager(s) when needed.
Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills are needed. Ability to apply equitable and inclusive practices to all aspects of service is required. Well-developed crisis management, problem solving and conflict resolution skills are required.
