Why join us?
The IESO is committed to ensuring Ontario’s electricity system meets the province’s needs today and into the future. We are charged with purpose, delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity for homes, businesses, and communities across the province. We are energized to grow, embracing opportunities to shape the future of a dynamic and evolving energy sector while advancing our careers. We are powered by teamwork, supported by diverse and passionate colleagues who foster respect, celebrate successes, and thrive on shared achievements. At the IESO, it’s not just what we do—it’s who we are!
Who we are
Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province’s energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we’ll need in the decades to come.
This is a unionized position that falls within the Integrated Conservation Planning team, part of the Demand & Conservation Planning department, Resource Planning division, and Power System Development business unit.
What makes this role exciting
The energy sector is rapidly evolving, offering exciting new opportunities for those who want to make a difference.
The successful candidate will play an important role integrating the IESO’s electricity Demand Side Management (eDSM), provincial resource planning, and regional planning activities, advancing Non-Wire Alternatives and helping ensure the IESO is maximizing the value of a low-cost, no-carbon resource. The successful candidate will also lead or support a variety of load research and demand forecasting activities, and work with other Integrated Conservation Planning team colleagues to implement enhancements to how climate change is accounted for in the IESO’s long-term demand forecasting.
The role requires working closely not just within the Integrated Conservation Planning team but also with colleagues across the Resource Planning, Transmission Planning, and Demand Side Management divisions, among other internal and external parties, providing a great opportunity to develop a broad perspective of the complete electricity system from the light switch to generator.

- Leading or supporting delivery of critical inputs for regional planning and Non-Wires Analysis, specifically station-level planned eDSM savings forecasts, additional eDSM potential estimates, and hourly demand forecasts
- Identifying and implementing process automation and analysis enhancement opportunities using Python programming
- Running the new eDSM Achievable Potential Study tool to produce new scenarios and sensitivities to meet IESO and policy maker’s evolving needs
- Supporting the development of climate-adjusted weather files to better account for climate change in the IESO’s long-term demand forecasts
- Mentor, advise and guide junior and less experienced staff. Set and manage quality control and review of work and products of junior planning staff.
- Execute other duties and responsibilities as required
In a typical day, you will engage with your colleagues on the Integrated Conservation Planning team (Supervisor, two Senior Planners and one-to-two co-op students) and other colleagues across the Resource Planning, Transmission Planning, Demand Side Management, and Partnerships, Research & Sustainability divisions. You will also occasionally engage with external parties including the Ontario Energy Board, Ministry of Energy & Mines, Enbridge Gas, electricity Local Distribution Companies, and various consultants and vendors. Your time is likely to be divided between delivering personal work items, providing direction and oversight to more junior staff, and being consulted by other IESO divisions
This is a promotion-in-place (PIP) affected role. Candidates with lesser qualifications will be considered for a Power System Planning Analyst role.
