The Food Centre has an immediate opening for a Process Specialist to work in our Advanced Food Ingredients Centre. You will be an integral part of this team and will ensure that processing goes smoothly and meet the required food processing standards.
Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in food or ingredient manufacturing, including hands-on processing operations.
- Previous supervisory or lead-hand experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of food safety systems, including HACCP, GMP, CFIA regulations, and occupational health and safety standards.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment and process issues and drive process improvements.
- Experience developing and following SOPs, process documentation, and training materials.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience assisting with equipment assembly, disassembly, or maintenance is an asset.
- Ability to operate or willingness to be trained on forklifts, pallet jacks, and scissor lifts.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
- High attention to detail, strong integrity, and commitment to food safety and workplace safety.
- Comfortable working collaboratively with internal teams, maintenance staff, and external clients.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing processes, schedules, and project requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Set up, operate, monitor, and shut down extraction, isolation, and drying process lines for advanced ingredient processing.
- Support development and execution of equipment assembly, processing, CIP, and cleaning protocols for batch and continuous operations.
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) of new equipment.
- Coordinate incoming and outgoing materials, products, and process aids to ensure efficient workflow.
- Troubleshoot process disruptions, improve process efficiency, and identify opportunities to reduce waste and utility consumption.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, mass balances, SDS and PPE requirements, in compliance with CFIA, GMP, HACCP, and Kosher standards as required.
- Support HACCP, GMP, 5S, and safety programs on the processing floor to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
- Operate processing equipment and material-handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks, scissor lifts) as required.
- Train operators on equipment, processes, food safety, personal hygiene, and PPE requirements.
- Participate in client meetings, pre-process planning, post-process reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare time, labour, and cost estimates for ingredient processing projects.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
