Primary Responsibility
The Order Picker is responsible for accurately picking customer orders and supporting the receiving, storage, and organization of inventory in a safe and efficient manner. This role helps ensure products are handled properly, inventory is rotated correctly, and the warehouse remains clean, organized, and compliant with food safety and workplace safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Pick customer orders accurately and verify quantities before shipment.
- Receive and inspect incoming shipments and confirm they match purchase orders and packing slips.
- Store products and materials in designated locations while maintaining proper temperature and hygiene requirements.
- Rotate inventory using First In, First Out (FIFO) principles.
- Complete receiving, shipping, and inventory records accurately.
- Keep the warehouse clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Dispose of waste and packaging materials in designated containers.
- Return carts, tools, and equipment to their proper storage locations.
- Plug in pallet jacks and other battery-powered equipment after use.
- Store wooden pallets in approved areas only.
- Report damaged products, inventory discrepancies, equipment issues, and delays to the supervisor.
- Follow all PPE, hygiene, and food safety requirements, including wearing gloves, smocks, hard hats, hair and beard nets, and steel-toed boots.
- Assist with maintaining a safe and efficient warehouse environment.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Physically capable of lifting and moving boxes and materials safely.
- Comfortable working in refrigerated environments.
- Basic computer and record-keeping skills.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety practices.
- Valid forklift certification is considered an asset.
Work Environment
- Refrigerated warehouse and production environment.
- Frequent lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
