OVERALL PURPOSE
The Vehicle Serviceperson is responsible for assisting the Technicians in the operation of forklifts, cranes, grinders and other shop equipment, track equipment, heavy equipment and vehicles. Also works as a helper in the maintenance and repair of the electrical, electronic and mechanical systems of all equipment utilized by the BCRTC.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works under the direction of the Vehicle Supervisor, Lead Hand or Technician to accomplish scheduled or unscheduled maintenance of vehicles, components, support vehicles, and shop equipment.
Assists the Technician in troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical or electronics problems for any vehicle subsystem, or components removed and repaired in Support Shops.
Accounts for all time and materials used in performance of the maintenance effort.
Assists in maintaining and repairing rail-bound and road/rail support vehicles.
Operates shop equipment including forklift, cranes, grinders, etc.
Utilizes hand and light power tools in repair and maintenance activities.
Operates heavy equipment and vehicles including rail-bound equipment and the SkyTrain vehicles.
Operates motor vehicle (4 wheel drive/standard transmission) with valid BC driver’s licence.
Configures and hostles trains and ensures that trains entering revenue service are serviceable.
Completes assigned tasks to Company or industry standards using approved work practices and procedures.
Attends technical and safety training programs to continually upgrade skills.
Handles emergencies and failures in accordance with established procedures through immediate response and quick action.
Performs related duties as assigned, such being items of a minor nature which do not affect the value of the job.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
As per WorkSafeBC regulations, this job requires an annual fit test and may necessitate the use of a respirator. In either case, the employee must be clean shaven. Any exemption requests should be raised to Occupational Health and/or Labour Relations for consideration.
