Position Description
IEC Hamilton is seeking a creative, detail-oriented, and motivated Web Designer to support the implementation of our Strategic Plan’s Continuous Skills Intelligence and Pathway Visibility initiatives through the design, development, and enhancement of engaging, accessible, and user-centred digital web experiences.
Working closely with members of the IEC Hamilton team, you will help transform workforce research, employer feedback, and organizational information into clear, accessible, and interactive online experiences. Your work will ensure IEC Hamilton’s website effectively supports students, educators, employers, volunteers, and community partners in accessing programs, resources, and labour market insights, while strengthening engagement through improved digital pathways and CRM-connected tools.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys web design, user experience, accessibility, and building functional digital systems that connect people to information and opportunities. While the position is primarily remote, occasional in-person meetings, photography, events, and collaborative planning sessions may be required.
Employment Type
- Type: Temporary Full-Time (Summer Position to August 29, 2026)
- Hours: 35 hours per week
- Duration: Approximately 8 weeks (subject to Canada Summer Jobs funding)
- Payroll: Hours worked are paid monthly, on or around the 28
- Work Model: Primarily Remote with occasional in-person meetings and events throughout Hamilton.

Job Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
- Design, update, and maintain IEC Hamilton’s website to ensure content is accurate, engaging, accessible, and aligned with organizational priorities.
- Create and enhance webpages supporting IEC Hamilton programs, employer engagement activities, workforce research, events, the Strategic Plan, and Annual General Meeting.
- Develop user-friendly website layouts, navigation systems, and digital experiences that improve accessibility, usability, and engagement for all audiences.
- Build landing pages and digital pathways that support program registration, employer engagement, event participation, and community initiatives.
- Translate workforce research, employer feedback, and organizational content into clear, structured, and accessible web experiences.
- Support website content management, including updating text, images, downloadable resources, and multimedia content.
- Assist with the design and maintenance of online forms, event registrations, and digital workflows that integrate with IEC Hamilton’s customer relationship management (CRM) system.
- Support CRM-connected digital experiences, including contact forms, registration pathways, user journeys, and automated communications between website and CRM tools.
- Perform basic HTML, CSS, and content management system updates while ensuring consistency with branding and accessibility standards.
- Test website functionality across devices and browsers, troubleshoot basic issues, and recommend improvements to usability, performance, and accessibility.
- Monitor website usage and user experience to identify opportunities for ongoing improvement.
- Maintain organized website files, templates, digital assets, and documentation to support sustainable website management.
- Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Coordinator and IEC Hamilton team to ensure consistency across digital communications, branding, and user experience.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas that strengthen IEC Hamilton’s digital presence, engagement, and community impact.
- Complete additional web, digital experience, and online engagement projects as assigned.
Qualifications to Succeed
We welcome applicants from post-secondary programs in Web Design, Web Development, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Digital Media, User Experience (UX), Information Technology, Interactive Media, or related fields, as well as individuals who have developed equivalent skills through self-directed learning, online training, community-based projects, volunteer work, freelance experience, or a demonstrated portfolio of web, UX, or digital development work.
- Experience creating or maintaining websites through employment, volunteer experience, academic projects, personal projects, or independent work.
- Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Experience using website platforms or content management systems such as WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, or similar tools.
- Understanding of responsive design, accessibility principles, and user experience (UX) best practices.
- Experience with website troubleshooting, testing, or improving usability is considered an asset.
- Experience working with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).
- Familiarity with CRM systems, online forms, or digital workflow tools is considered an asset.
- Experience with design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of AI-assisted development tools or “vibe coding” workflows is considered an asset.
- Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

Working Conditions
- Primarily remote work with occasional in-person meetings, planning sessions, employer visits, schools, photography opportunities, and community events throughout Hamilton.
- Reliable internet connection and an appropriate remote workspace are required.
- Occasional travel within Hamilton may be required.
- Flexible schedule during regular business hours, with occasional evening or event-based work.
- Access to a personal vehicle is considered an asset but not required.

Compensation
Compensation will be provided in accordance with the Canada Summer Jobs program and IEC Hamilton's established wage rate of $18.60/hour for this position.
