Financial Controller
Job description
We are currently seeking a Controller with 3-5 years of financial hotel and general accounting experience to join our Group of companies.
In this role, the successful candidate will assist in the preparation of financial entries and in-depth analysis of the general ledger accounts supporting the financial statements.
Duties
- Perform reconciliations of bank accounts, prepare and post journal entries, as well as coordinate closely with the Accounts Payable team to monitor the payables and assist in reconciling vendor balances.
- Preparation of month end reporting packages, financial statements and related information
- Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
- Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
- Responding to queries
- Verify, vouch, post, and reconcile intercompany transactions
- Preparation of month-end and year-end close process
- Preparation of regular external filings, such as GST and HST completion of routine account analysis and bookkeeping assignments following established procedures
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results for management review
- Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures and maintaining internal controls
- Guide accounting clerk in Edmonton, General Managers and contracted Audit company by coordinating activities and answering questions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is an asset
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and regulations
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail
- Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively across departments
- Prior experience in budgeting, account reconciliation, and analysis is a plus
