The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Position summary
Under the direct supervision of the principal investigator, Dr. Robert Koenekoop, we are currently seeking a highly motivated, organized, enthusiastic individual to join our growing, dynamic team. The incumbent will be required to perform a wide range of visual testing including visual acuity, visual field and retinal imaging by ETDRS, GVF, HVF, OCT, FAF, FST and ERG, plus a few new tests. This full-time position will include both clinical work and research to test treatments for blindness both in kids and adults.
General Duties
- Coordinating patient recruitment and study procedures,
- Read and review consent documentation with patients to ensure understanding and obtain informed consent,
- Maintain current certifications and remain compliant with all applicable SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and GCP (Good Clinical Practice) requirements for clinical trials,
- All visual and retinal testing (above),
- Archiving of all data,
- Instrument calibration and upkeep,
- Timely completion of all study documentation forms, including case report forms (CRFs), queries and other study specific documents,
- Attending departmental and academic meetings to increase knowledge and understanding of study-related activities,
- Communication, monitoring and coordination of multicenter collaborations.
Standards of performance:
- Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of various ophthalmic tests, including understanding testing procedures, proper use of equipment, and the ability to obtain reliable, high-quality results.

Education / Experience
Education: Diplome of College Studies (DEC)
Field of Study: DEC in sciences or equivalent
Other education considered an asset for this position: Ophthalmic Technician Certificate
Work Experience: Experience performing accurate visual acuity and visual field measurements, OCT and Fundus photos.
Required Skills
- Advanced knowledge of oral and written French is required.
- An intermediate knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with patients who are exclusively proficient in English.
- Willingness to learn and be trained on additional ophthalmic testing ,
- Experience in clinical trials or prospective observational studies is an asset,
- Fluency in French (spoken and written) is required,
- Proficiency in spoken English is required ,
- Experience with database entry and data management, including international registries,
- Knowledge of RedCap is an asset,
- Strong initiative, leadership and organization skills,
- Ability to work independently, multitask and prioritize workload,
- Willingness to acquire new skills, obtain additional certifications and adapt to new situations,
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team,
- High level of tact, discretion, and professionalism, particularly when handling confidential patient and research data,
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and RedCap.
Additional information
Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm
Work Site: Glen Site, 1001 Decarie Blvd.
Other: CIM, Glen site MUHC and Medical Clinic Crowley.
