Our comprehensive sustainability program, Planet Keilhauer, is driven by our goal of closed-loop manufacturing, an approach to production in which there is no waste and materials are cycled back into the system to minimize environmental impact. As the Sustainability Coordinator, you are responsible for assisting with environmental program maintenance and development, helping the organization achieve long-term success by maintaining a balance between our people, the environment and our products.
This position gives a junior sustainability or environmental professional the ability to develop their skills through project management exposure and coaching from the Sustainability Officer. As a trusted point person for the department, you will work on a wide-range of initiatives that provide visibility into every area of the organization and require regular contact with internal and external stakeholders. Activities such as sustainability data management (GHG scope 1,2,3), developing vendor compliance lists, creating training materials, updating Product Environmental Criteria (PEC) sheets and preparing supporting data and documents for different environmental certifications (BIFMA Level, Indoor Air Quality Reports, Renewable Energy, etc.)
This role is best suited to an analytical thinker with strong communication skills who is adaptable, creative, versatile, and enjoys a variety of activities. You use your excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in order to prioritize and execute tasks to meet project goals on time. Ensuring Keilhauer stays up-to-date on sustainability initiatives helps to further Keilhauer’s mission of making work comfortable for all.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Support the creation and ongoing maintenance of product documentation regarding sustainability and materials
- Coordination and maintenance of product sustainability documents including notices of change and end of life product documents.
- Update online databases and platforms of product environmental features and Planet Keilhauer website content.
- Collect and analyze data from a range of sources (e.g. working with suppliers, conducting research).
- Enter and cross-references data to ensure accuracy and relevance.
- Collaborate with members of the Marketing team to create customer-facing materials.
2. Support Sustainability Data Management and Analysis
- Collect and analyze environmental (GHG emissions scope 1, 2, 3) and social data for the creation of the Annual Corporate Sustainability Report.
- Support data collection and analysis related to carbon neutral products.
- Support product testing initiatives such as indoor air quality.
- Conduct research on new regulations or certification programs.
3. Support sales, marketing, and other initiatives with sustainability knowledge
- Support other departments by answering questions and comments in a timely and professional manner.
- Ongoing maintenance of vendor compliance tracking sheets.
- Verify conformance to various certification criteria.
- Create spreadsheets and other reports to aid in decision-making and product planning.
- Collect and analyze internal operations data such as energy and consumption usage when needed for certifications.
- Act a liaison between internal departments and external organizations to coordinate projects under the guidance of the Sustainability Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1 – 2 years’ related experience in a Sustainability capacity; previous experience in Manufacturing, Supply Chain or Project Management is an asset.
- Post-secondary degree specializing in Sustainability or ESG, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or related field.
- Knowledge and experience with applicable global sustainability standards (GRI, SASB, CDP, TCFD)
- Possesses a general understanding of product lifecycle, materials, material composition, chemical constituents, and other relevant topics.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, graphs, business periodicals and governmental regulations.
- Enjoy working with data with advanced analytic and reporting capabilities using Excel
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and mathematical use of Excel; proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This role is performed primarily in an office environment which is typically quiet. Most of your duties will be fulfilled with the use of a computer and office equipment, with communications taking place by phone, email or in person. Some functions of your role will be conducted in the manufacturing facility, where you may be exposed to dust particulates and noise.
- This position requires frequent, dynamic interaction through face-to-face contact, email and phone communications.
- Must be capable of traveling to other locations as required to perform job function.
- This position requires long periods of sitting.
- Must be capable of multi-tasking and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to handle frequent interruptions to planned work activities.
