About the Role
Reporting to the FSQA Manager, the FSQA supervisor is responsible for administering Quality and Food Safety programs and protocols for Sunco Food facility on either a day or afternoon shift. The candidate is responsible for ensuring a safe, cost effective and service-oriented department, while providing values-based leadership to their direct reports and other employees in the department in compliance to policy, regulatory standards, and business goals across the facility. QA technicians and sanitation workers will report into this role. The FSQA Supervisor will complete onsite audits / inspections and program reviews. This position is required to write policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
· Supervise QA Technicians and Sanitation Associates, ensuring that tasks are conducted consistently, efficiently and meet the needs of the business.
· Ensure facility and equipment are ready for operation each day
· Ensure proper execution of Quality and Food Safety programs and protocols on the production floor
· Planning QA staffing requirements according to staffing levels and production demands, including approving of hours on a weekly basis and vacation scheduling
· Administer training (one on one, or group training). Training includes but is not limited to on the job training, equipment training, food safety training, WHMIS, SDS packages and basic chemistry
· Supervise facility inspection program and ensure daily / monthly inspections are completed (e.g. GMP, facility audit, WHSE inspection, Glass audit)
· Manage the inventory of laboratory supplies, QC / QA / Production records
· Provide HACCP and Food Safety and Quality program updates, maintenance, verification's and function as a cross functional liaison to ensure the plant is meeting regulatory and compliance requirements for all stakeholders
· Preparing for regulatory and third party audits (SQF, SFCR, Organic, GFCP, GFCO, SFCR, SMETA or customer) and prepare/coach cross functional managers before and during these audits.
· Assist in follow up, investigations and issue any corrective actions, if necessary, based on deviations found in plant process (e.g. HOLD) or resulting from customer complaints and RMAs
· Supervise pre-operation inspection and environmental monitoring program and ensure all relevant parts of equipment and areas of the facility are covered thru program. Ensure results are populated/updates in Environmental Monitoring Matrix
· Perform sanitation audit, and assist with analysis of sanitation/environmental and pest control data to determine root cause of deficiencies and provide sanitation and operations team feedback on performance and necessary improvements.
· Audit and report non-compliance and take corrective actions to assure compliance to all quality assurance food safety requirements on a regular and daily basis
· Maintaining an attitude of continuous process improvement and training of employees at hourly and salary levels
· Provides technical expertise to the Manufacturing Operations regarding product quality, food safety, and good manufacturing practices
· Plan, actively engage, communicate and provide direction with respect to Quality Assurance/Food Safety and related activities in all programs such as Sanitation, Employee Relations, Health and Safety Programs etc.
· Developing a constructive work environment through excellent interpersonal, team building skills, open communications, encouraging input and constructive performance management.
· Support and execute the Company’s Food Safety programs at the facility in conjunction with Operations, Warehouse, Maintenance, Sanitation and all other plant functional areas
· Required to move between shifts/departments for vacation support
· Monitor / update HOLD Tracker and ensure compliance with related KPI’s – Product release
· Other duties as assigned. (e.g. act as technicians if needed)
Requirements, Skills & Qualifications:
· B.Sc. in Food Science, Chemistry or Microbiology would be an asset.
· HACCP, Preventative Controls Qualified Individual and SQF Practitioner certifications
· Supervisory experience 3+ years in FSQA within a food manufacturing environment, preferably in a unionized setting
· Experience in basic food chemistry, basic microbiology, allergen controls, auditing, GFSI / SQF, sanitary design and HACCP principles
· Ability to manage and build a team independently
· Demonstrated ability to forge partnerships with multiple cross-functional areas, (i.e. Operations, warehouse, Maintenance, Sanitation) to enhance efficiency and productivity
· Knowledge of industry related quality systems and inspection programs
· Proven leadership abilities, Ability to problem solve
· Strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
· Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and Strong analytical skills
Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
