Skilled Handyman | Multi-Trade Home Repair Craftsman
For craftsmen who take pride in doing it right the first time.
If you're a skilled tradesperson who's tired of being treated like a warm body — hauled between job sites, second-guessed by foremen, or stuck doing the same one thing every day — we should talk.
At Local Handyman Grande Prairie, we're building a team of experienced, independent multi-trade professionals who can walk into a customer's home, size up the work, and get it done to a standard they'd be proud to put their own name on. That's the job. And we'll treat you like the craftsman you are.
What you get when you work with us
The kind of employment package that respects your time and your skill:
- $34–$40/hr based on experience — with our best techs earning in the upper half of the range
- Company vehicle you take home — save $400–$700/month in fuel and personal vehicle wear
- 40-hour work weeks, year-round — no boom-bust cycles, no seasonal layoffs, no gaps
- Home every single night — no camps, no rotations, no on-call
- Paid drive time between jobs — you're on the clock from start to finish
- Full-Time employee status with extended health benefits and vacation pay after a 90-day probationary period
- A real path to grow — senior technicians here move into lead-tech and mentor roles
Add up the vehicle, the benefits, no missed family time, and the stability — and a $35/hr role here easily competes with a $45/hr oilfield position on total lifestyle value.
What working here actually looks like
We handle the customer acquisition, the scheduling, the marketing, and the admin. You handle the craft. Your day is walking into a customer's home, sizing up the work, and executing to a standard that makes them tell their neighbours about us.
You'll be doing work like:
- Drywall repairs, patching, texture matching, and painting (our bread and butter)
- Interior carpentry and trim work
- Basic plumbing — faucets, toilets, shut-offs, hot water tanks
- Basic electrical — outlets, switches, light fixtures
- Tile and flooring repair
- General home repairs and improvements for residential customers
You'll work independently on scheduled jobs, occasionally alongside another technician on larger projects. We provide the customers, the systems, and the support. You provide the craftsmanship.
Who we're looking for
This is not an entry-level role. We're looking for a seasoned multi-trade professional who:
- Has 5+ years of paid hands-on experience in handyman work, construction, or a skilled trade (more is better)
- Can walk onto a job and figure it out with minimal direction — you know how to diagnose, plan, and execute without a foreman looking over your shoulder
- Has genuine skill in drywall and painting (our most common work), plus solid competency across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and flooring
- Presents professionally in customers' homes — clean, respectful, well-spoken
- Takes real pride in the quality of your work and doesn't cut corners
- Communicates clearly with customers and follows through on commitments
- Shows up on time, every time
If you've been a lead carpenter, a facilities maintenance lead, a self-employed contractor, or a senior handyman elsewhere — this is your role.
Requirements
- Valid Alberta driver's license and clean driving abstract
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Minimum 3 years of paid hands-on trade experience (5+ strongly preferred)
- Comfort working in occupied residential homes and commerical spaces
- A basic personal tool set
