ACHKAR LAW is an employment, human rights, and litigation law firm providing legal services to clients across Ontario. Our clients are both employers and employees - our work includes proactive advice to employers as well as full-blown litigation when lawsuits happen. For our employee clients, we help negotiate termination packages and settlements of sexual harassment cases, among other work - and litigation, when matters do not resolve.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with litigation files, has an eye for detail, and is a proactive team player. Litigation is not the easiest of fields, but you will have the backing to grow and run your practice here.
Job Description:
As an Accountant at Achkar Law, you will be responsible for managing the firm's financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. Your key duties will include:
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, journal entries, docketing entries and bank reconciliations
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
- Preparing and filing tax returns and ensuring compliance with tax regulations
- Managing the firm's budget and cash flow, including monitoring expenses and forecasting future financial needs
- Coordinating with the firm's payroll and HR teams to ensure accurate payroll processing and compliance with employment standards and regulations
- Managing accounts receivable and collections, including issuing invoices and following up on outstanding payments
- Providing financial analysis and recommendations to support business decision-making
- Assisting with the preparation of client bills and monitoring accounts receivable balances
- Liaising with external auditors and tax advisors as required
- Keeping up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and tax regulations, and ensuring compliance with new requirements
- Assisting with ad-hoc financial projects and other duties as assigned by the management team
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an accountant
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA, CGA, or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations
- Working with a law firm is an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, PC law, Cosmolex or similar.
