Serving the Georgian Triangle since 1991, MFH provides a wide range of support services to abused women, women at risk of violence and their children. Services include: safe refuge, supportive counselling, information, education and advocacy. (www.myfriendshouse.ca)
Summary:
Incumbents will be responsible for helping the women and children in our Residential Program to deal effectively with the impact of violence in their lives. They will make themselves available on an call in and scheduled basis for day, night and weekend shifts.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Staffing the 24-Hour Crisis Telephone Line; Responding to emergency situations as required; Undertaking needs assessment; Using the Case Management System; Providing counselling-related information and resources; Delivering supportive individual and group counseling services; Managing effective conflict resolution; Implementing and coordinating Shelter operations; Carrying out general office administration and cleaning duties.
Qualifications:
- Graduated from post-secondary institution in relevant field and experience in direct service delivery within the fields of VAW, Mental Health, Developmental Services or Addiction.
- Thorough knowledge of the issues, concepts, and practices in violence against women, mental health and addiction, especially harm reduction principles
- Understanding of advocacy strategies, diversity issues, and empowerment
- Strong knowledge of clinical issues affecting clients with complex trauma, mental health and addiction issues
- Knowledge of resources, supports, and services in Georgian Triangle and Simcoe County, including formal and informal stakeholders a benefit
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including excellent listening ability, emotional regulation, and the ability to problem-solve and make appropriate decisions in a crisis
- Certification in First Aid & CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
