JKCE Probuild Contracting Corp. is a growing general contractor specializing in residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use construction projects throughout British Columbia.
As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced Construction Project Accountant to support our growing project operations and corporate accounting functions. This role will play a key part in supporting an upcoming major project that will be managed using Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate (Sage 300 CRE), as well as other ongoing construction projects.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience in construction accounting, preferably within a general contracting environment. You will be responsible for project accounting, job costing, cost tracking, subcontractor and supplier payments, progress billing, statutory holdbacks, and general accounting activities.
This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional who understands the financial and operational requirements of construction projects and has experience using Sage 300 CRE.
Key Responsibilities
Project Accounting & Cost Control
- Manage project accounting activities throughout the full project lifecycle.
- Monitor and track project budgets, job costs, committed costs, and actual expenditures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project financial records, including cost reports, commitments, purchase orders, invoices, payment records, and job cost information.
- Set up and maintain project accounting records in Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate (CRE).
- Review, verify, and process subcontractor and supplier invoices.
- Manage purchase orders and commitments and ensure costs are properly coded and allocated to the appropriate projects and cost codes.
- Prepare and maintain progress payment documentation, statutory holdbacks, and subcontractor payment records.
- Support Project Managers with budget monitoring, cost tracking, forecasting, and project financial reporting.
- Track change orders and ensure project budgets and costs are updated accurately.
- Generate and analyze project financial and job cost reports using Sage 300 CRE.
- Assist in identifying cost discrepancies, budget variances, and other project accounting issues.
Accounting Operations
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
- Maintain accurate vendor, subcontractor, customer, and project accounts.
- Process payroll and maintain payroll-related records and documentation.
- Prepare GST filings and assist with other government reporting requirements.
- Perform bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Support the preparation of financial reports and accounting analysis for management.
- Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with company policies and applicable requirements.
Software & System Management
- Perform day-to-day project accounting activities using Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate (Sage 300 CRE, formerly Timberline).
- Support the implementation, transition, and rollout of Sage 300 CRE for new projects.
- Assist management and project teams in establishing effective accounting and job-costing workflows within the system.
- Support accurate project setup, cost tracking, commitments, purchase orders, subcontractor invoices, and financial reporting in Sage 300 CRE.
- Use QuickBooks for applicable corporate accounting and financial activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on construction accounting experience.
- Experience working for a general contractor, construction company, real estate developer, construction management company, or other project-based construction environment is strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate (Sage 300 CRE/Timberline) is required.
- Experience with QuickBooks is required.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting processes, including:
- Job costing and cost code allocation
- Project cost tracking and budget monitoring
- Commitments and purchase orders
- Subcontractor and supplier invoicing
- Progress billings and progress payments
- Statutory holdbacks
- Change order tracking
- Project financial reporting
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Experience managing accounting activities for multiple construction projects is an asset.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to organize, analyze, and reconcile financial and project cost data.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with Project Managers, site teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and management.
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Fluency in English and Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) is required.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
