About Actually
Actually provides independent technology oversight for business owners and leadership teams.
Companies spend heavily on internal IT departments, managed service providers, cybersecurity and technology projects—but often have no independent way to determine whether they are receiving the right advice, appropriate service or good value.
Actually sits on the client’s side of the table. We assess technology performance, challenge recommendations, identify risks and help leadership make better technology decisions.
We do not sell managed IT services, software, hardware or remediation projects.
The opportunity
We are hiring our first Business Development Representative to introduce Actually to owners and senior executives at growing Canadian companies.
This is a hands-on outbound prospecting role. Your primary responsibility will be to research suitable companies, contact decision-makers, uncover relevant business concerns and schedule qualified discovery meetings with our founder.
You will spend a meaningful part of each day making outbound calls. This is not a passive lead-management, account-management or general marketing position.
Because you will be our first BDR, you will also help us refine our messaging, qualification process and outbound sales system.
What you will do
- Research target companies and identify owners, CEOs, CFOs, COOs and other senior decision-makers.
- Make approximately 35–50 thoughtful outbound call attempts per day.
- Use telephone, email and LinkedIn to develop conversations with prospective clients.
- Explain Actually’s value clearly without relying on technical jargon.
- Ask effective questions about IT performance, technology spending, cybersecurity risk and provider accountability.
- Qualify prospects and schedule discovery meetings with our founder.
- Confirm meetings and prepare concise handoff notes.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, call outcomes and follow-up commitments.
- Review recorded calls and participate in regular coaching.
- Identify recurring objections, market concerns and potential sales opportunities.
- Help develop a repeatable outbound business-development process.
What success looks like
During your first 90 days, you will:
- Learn Actually’s services, target market and positioning.
- Build and maintain a well-qualified target-account list.
- Develop confidence speaking with owners and senior executives.
- Progress toward 8–12 held, qualified meetings per month.
- Maintain a meeting show rate of at least 70%.
- Consistently document conversations and next steps in the CRM.
- Demonstrate that you can receive coaching and apply it to subsequent calls.
What we are looking for
- Two or more years of outbound B2B prospecting or business-development experience.
- Demonstrated comfort making cold calls.
- Experience speaking with owners, executives or senior decision-makers.
- Clear and professional spoken and written English.
- Strong listening skills and genuine curiosity about how businesses operate.
- The ability to communicate complex ideas in straightforward language.
- Persistence and emotional steadiness when dealing with rejection.
- Strong organization, follow-up and CRM discipline.
- Openness to call review, role-playing and frequent coaching.
- Honesty about your results, including your previous activity, meeting and quota numbers.
Experience that would be particularly valuable
Experience selling any of the following would be helpful, but is not required:
- Professional or advisory services
- Business assessments or audits
- Cybersecurity or technology consulting
- Financial, insurance, HR or compliance services
- Services to privately owned small and mid-sized businesses
- Services to law firms, manufacturers, construction companies or skilled-trades businesses
You do not need to be a technology expert. You do need to be interested in how technology affects business risk, cost and performance.
Compensation
The expected base salary is $55,000–$75,000, depending on experience.
Performance compensation will be based primarily on held qualified meetings, accepted sales opportunities and revenue generated from BDR-sourced relationships.
Expected total annual cash compensation at target is approximately $80,000–$95,000. The role includes structured ramp support during the initial onboarding period.
How we work
Actually’s approach is thoughtful, direct and independent. We do not use fear, misleading claims or aggressive sales tactics.
A successful representative will respect the prospect’s time, ask intelligent questions and focus on whether a genuine business need exists. Meeting quality matters more to us than filling a calendar with weak appointments.
