We’re hiring PART-TIME DECK LEADS, SWIM INSTRUCTORS & LIFEGUARDS at our WEST location, and we want you to be part of our vibrant team!
Deck Leads, Swim Instructors, & Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring safety and maintaining high-quality programming during swim activities and children's camps. These roles ensure a fun and safe environment for all participants, in accordance with Ontario’s health, safety and aquatics regulations, and club policies.
Please note: Due to the nature of Aquatics Programming, staff are required to be available to work primarily during evenings and weekends throughout the school year. Camp Programming occurs during school breaks and P.A. Days, and requires availability between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
SWIM INSTRUCTORS & LIFEGUARDS:
What you will do:
- Plan and organize classes through daily lesson plans and long-term core plans to ensure progressive learning
- Provide instruction and evaluations of participants during lessons
- Complete pool deck set-up and clean-up
- Provide excellent customer service
- Maintain class safety through formations and proper scanning techniques
- Participate in and host scheduled promotional events
- Attend regular in-service training courses
- Supervise pool and deck areas to ensure the ongoing safety of all participants
- Enforce facility rules and regulations in a positive and professional manner
- Maintain constant surveillance and respond promptly and effectively to aquatic emergencies, providing appropriate first aid or rescue techniques and following all emergency procedures
- Conduct regular safety checks of equipment and pool facilities
- Support a safe and inclusive environment for all participants
- Complete other tasks as assigned
What you need to be successful:
- Current standard First Aid and CPR-C certifications
- Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification
- Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard - Pool Certification
- Ability to work weekends, weeknights, and camp programs
- Strong knowledge of aquatic safety protocols and emergency response procedures
- Physical ability to perform rescues and administer first aid, if required
DECK LEADS
The following responsibilities outline some key expectations of this role; however, duties may vary, and additional related tasks may be assigned as required.
What you will do:
Aquatics Program Oversight:
- Supervise daily swimming activities, ensuring safety protocols are always followed
- Oversee and assist with swimming lessons for children and adults, working closely with Swim Instructors to deliver effective, engaging sessions
- Substitute for Swim Instructors as required
- Manage poolside logistics, ensuring the pool area is prepared for swim lessons, practices, and special events
- Enforce safety rules and guidelines for swimmers and staff, including supervision of swimmers in the water and around the pool
Children’s Camps:
- Lead and support camp programs, including planning and organizing camp schedules, swim activities, and special events in line with Ontario’s child safety standards
- Supervise campers during pool time, ensuring all campers are safe and having an enjoyable experience, while maintaining proper staff-to-camper ratios
- Provide support and guidance to junior camp staff and counsellors, ensuring they follow camp policies and procedures
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding camper progress, behavior, and any incidents
Customer Service & Community Engagement:
- Maintain strong communication with members, participants, and parents to address concerns and provide exceptional customer service
- Handle any complaints or issues promptly and professionally, ensuring a positive experience for all club members, camp participants and their families
- Promote aquatics programs and camps to the community and ensure that the club’s programs align with the needs and expectations of the local community
Safety & Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with all Ontario laws and regulations related to aquatics programming and children’s activities (e.g., Ontario Ministry of Health and Ontario Child Protection regulations)
- Perform regular checks of pool equipment, deck areas, and surrounding facilities to ensure safety and cleanliness, including but not limited to ensuring the deck is free of hazards and storing equipment after use
- Respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies, including administering First Aid and CPR as needed, in line with Ontario’s emergency response protocols
What you need to be successful:
- Current Swim Instructor certification
- Current National Lifeguard – Pool certification
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification (from Canadian Red Cross, Lifesaving Society, or equivalent)
- Previous experience in aquatics programming, coaching, or teaching swim lessons
- Experience working with children in a camp, recreational, or educational setting
- Knowledge of Ontario-specific regulations for aquatics and camp operations, including child safety standards
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
- Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and effective manner
