We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is "Mohkinstsis," which we now call the city of Calgary. About the Department of Wellness Services
Wellness Services provides comprehensive services and programs to support campus members’ physical, mental, and sexual wellbeing. We offer one-on-one services with a variety of healthcare practitioners including physicians, nurses, mental health nurses, a psychiatrist, psychologists, social workers, chiropractors, massage therapists, athletic therapists, physiotherapists, an acupuncturist, and a pedorthist. We support academic success for students through counselling, groups, workshops, peer programs, online tools, and outreach initiatives that are continually evolved to meet current campus needs. We further support academic success through the facilitation of academic requirements for nursing and athletic therapy students. Wellness Services is foundational in supporting the wellbeing of our campus community through Okanagan Charter inspired systems-based approaches.
Wellness Services is comprised of four operational units: Healthy Campus, Health Services, Optimal Therapy, and Student Counselling Services.
About the Role
The Healthy Campus Team Lead is an integral part of Wellness Services who oversees the operations of the Healthy Campus Team. The Healthy Campus Team Lead reports to the Director of Wellness Services and is a member of the Wellness Leadership Team.
The mission of the Healthy Campus Team is to work with campus community members to help promote well-being from the individual to the environment level. This is done collaboratively through an evidence-informed population health promotion approach that includes identifying health issues and strategically engaging in programming, education, advocacy, capacity building, and policy initiatives. The Healthy Campus Team Lead is responsible for leading a team specialized in health promotion and education. Healthy Campus team members focus on numerous health areas (mental health, substance use and harm reduction, physical activity, nutrition, etc.) through a variety of means including peer programming (Peer Health Education and Peer to Peer Mental Health Education), programs (Steps to Wellbeing, Breathing Room, and Student Health 101), trainings (The Working Mind and The Inquiring Mind, Naloxone and Harm Reduction training, QPR and ASIST training), and other strategic initiatives and projects. With a focus on the student population, engaging students is a vital part of the work of the Healthy Campus Team.
This position requires a collaborative and strategic thinker who is adept with health promotion best practices and is able to apply health promotion theories and frameworks within a post-secondary setting. This position has significant responsibilities in strategic planning, leadership, assessment, report writing, and health promotion initiatives. This position works closely with many internal and external stakeholders to facilitate collaborative work.
Overseeing Healthy Campus Team members including providing feedback, guidance, and support
Overseeing Healthy Campus Team initiatives to help ensure they are coordinated, strategic, and evidence-informed
Designing and implementing evidence-informed health promotion initiatives (e.g., advocacy, policy, peer-led programming, creating supportive environments, capacity building, and education-based initiatives) in collaboration with key stakeholders internally and externally
Providing guidance and assistance with the assessment of health promotion initiatives through a variety of methods
Assisting/overseeing implementation of large population health surveys, analyzing results, and using available data to identify unmet health needs
Reporting on the impact of the Healthy Campus Team for a variety of stakeholders
Budget management responsibilities including monitoring expenses, allocations, and projections. This includes components of grant management and donor relations.
Actively participating in, and occasionally leading, strategic planning and resulting action plans
Actively contributing to committees and teams including the Wellness Leadership Team and the MRU Healthy Campus Steering Committee
Assisting in grant proposals and report writing as appropriate
Delivering presentations to various stakeholders on campus and translating data into action in collaboration with relevant stakeholder groups
Master’s degree in public health or population health, health promotion, health education, or a related field in combination with 2-3 years related experience
Thorough understanding of population health promotion, population health assessment, social determinants of health, and health inequities
Expertise and experience in program development, implementation, and assessment
Expertise and experience in proposal and report writing
Ability to effective demonstrate the importance, value, and impact of health promotion, particularly within a post-secondary setting
Strong analytical, knowledge translation, and project management skills with the ability to be flexible and self-directed
Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
Fluency with Google suite considered an asset
Supervisory experience considered an asset
Budget management experience considered an asset
Working knowledge of statistics; knowledge of statistical software considered an asset
Strong background in mental health and harm reduction considered an asset
Experience working at a post-secondary institution considered an asset

Salary: $3,107.25 Semi-monthly
