POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the General Manager, Aftermarket Sales (Canada), the Senior Specialist, Trade Compliance & Import Operations is responsible for managing the direct importation of equipment into Canada, including shipments to non-Crown locations such as dealers and customer sites. This role ensures full compliance with Canadian customs and trade regulations while supporting broader trade compliance initiatives across the Canadian organization.
This role offers the opportunity to be the key Canadian contact while remaining closely connected to and supported by our Corporate Trade Compliance and Supply Chain teams in New Bremen, Ohio. You’ll collaborate regularly with internal partners and external stakeholders, including customs brokers, freight forwarders, and regulatory authorities.
POSITION DESCRIPTION

Manage and oversee direct import operations into Canada, including shipments to dealers and customer locations

Ensure compliance with Canadian customs laws, regulations, and internal corporate policies

Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and regulatory authorities to facilitate efficient import processes

Support harmonized tariff classification, country of origin determination, and customs valuation processes

Optimize duty and tax programs and ensure compliance with applicable trade agreements (e.g., CUSMA, CETA, CPTPP)

Review and ensure accuracy of import/export documentation and regulatory filings

Perform restricted party screening and support compliance investigations where required

Conduct audits and compliance reviews to identify gaps and implement corrective actions

Support responses to CBSA inquiries, SIMA investigations, and regulatory requirements

Collaborate with U.S.-based corporate teams to align with global trade compliance strategies

Contribute to development and implementation of trade compliance policies, procedures, and training materials

Support continuous improvement initiatives related to trade compliance and import operations

Maintain accurate records in ERP systems and ensure data integrity

KNOW HOW & EXPERIENCE
-
Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Minimum 5 years of experience in Canadian trade compliance, customs, or import operations

Strong knowledge of CBSA regulations, HS tariff classification, country of origin, valuation, and duty/tax programs

Experience with SIMA regulations and duty implications

Proven experience managing imports into Canada from global sources

Demonstrated ability to work with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and regulatory authorities

Familiarity with free trade agreements such as CUSMA, CETA, and CPTPP

Experience supporting audits, compliance reviews, and documentation accuracy

Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel

Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Experience working with U.S.-based corporate teams in a global framework

Experience with the CARM portal and CBSA communications

PIP program experience is considered an asset

Trade compliance or customs certification (e.g., CCS) preferred
