Working under the direction of the Chief Client Officer, with a dotted line to the Chair of the National Litigation department, this position provides Firm-wide strategic client support and business planning for the National Litigation department, including business development and marketing communications. To develop, recommend and execute strategic business development initiatives for the department on an annual basis. In addition, this role collaborates with client development initiatives as indicated through the strategic client account management programs (client teams)

Major Responsibilities

Support annual Department Planning, including goals and objectives, practice management, business analytics and key metrics.
Development of strategic business-development and marketing plans for various expertise and industry-focused groups within litigation, including competitive analyses, key target analyses, and the identification of internal capabilities and expertise, promoting increased visibility, media relations coverage, networking, cross-selling, and alignment with individual lawyer business-development planning. Seeks out and reviews networking/speaking engagement opportunities for legal professionals, consistent with their business development goals.
Assists in developing new business opportunities, including generating prospect lists and coordinating information-gathering efforts such as researching and recommending new target companies, law firms, industries, or localities.
Responsible for acting as the litigation lead for the Pursuits team, to action the RFP, pitches and proposal response. Coordinates all functions relating to the preparation of proposals, including developing the litigation strategy, pricing, team, and experience.
Understanding and leading litigation AFAs and Budgets with support from Project management and pricing. Directing the creation of pricing templates and menu pricing for litigation
Coaching and advisory lead for Litigation partners, supporting partner workshops and individual partner business development plans.
Associate business development programs - Identifies tools for training business-development staff and lawyers in business-development best practices. Assists with business development and sales, cross-selling, client-retention, and other marketing-related training programs.
Develops and tracks the practice group’s business-development budget consistent with the group’s business-development plans.
Lead Chambers Litigation submissions, leveraging resources and Chambers processes and assisting with other directory and award submissions.
Identifies opportunities for increased visibility with business, trade, and legal media and, working closely with the firm’s media consultant, coordinates press strategy with lawyers. Supporting development and visibility of litigation blogs and communications.
Organizes and keeps current all business-development materials related to the groups, practices, and offices to which he/she is assigned. Ensures currency of bios, case lists, and other hard-copy and specialized marketing materials required by his/her practice groups. Ensures that related Web content is updated and timely.
Disseminates throughout the firm using appropriate internal communications vehicles, information about business-development activities, client accomplishments, lateral partners, speaking engagements, articles, alerts, and other relevant marketing activities.
Develops and coordinates the execution of client-related communications and education and entertainment programs (including seminars, newsletters, client alerts, receptions, networking events, etc.)
Position Requirements

Education and Experience

University degree (BA/MBA/JD) in business, law, communications, marketing or English plus five to seven years related litigation or business development experience within a professional services firm (law firm experience is preferable). Knowledge of litigation strongly preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be acceptable.
