The Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour is seeking an individual to join the New Brunswick Public Library Service as a Cataloguing Librarian working in Fredericton.

As a member of the Provincial Office team, the successful candidate will report to the Head of Collection Development. The successful candidate will be responsible for original and copy cataloguing in English and in French for inclusion in a provincial union catalogue of more than 2 million items. As a professional librarian, the Cataloguing Librarian is expected to assume a leadership role and to provide support to the Head of Collection Development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation and validation of bibliographic records including classification, subject analysis and authority control in accordance with national and international standards; assisting with catalogue maintenance of the automated library system; assisting in the training of cataloguing staff on new initiatives; researching advancements and products that may improve cataloguing procedures; participating in provincial committees and in automation, cataloguing and technical services planning; contributing to the formulation of cataloguing policies and procedures; generating reports from the database; managing provincial research and other special projects as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in Library and/or Information Studies from an ALA accredited program. Knowledge of MARC21, AACR2 or RDA, LC or Laval subject headings, Dewey Decimal Classification and the principles of authority control is necessary. Experience using library automated systems, e-mail, the Internet and Ms-Word are necessary.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

Salary: $44,954 to $62,842 per annum.
