General Labourer, Metal Sorter
This job role involves ensuring the proper sorting, grading, and processing of various non-ferrous metals to help facilitate efficient metal recycling in our non-ferrous department. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of efficiency and productivity and must have a willingness to learn (in-house training provided).
Key Responsibilities:
Metal Identification and Sorting
- Identify, grade, sort, separate, and process all received metals within the non-ferrous department.
- Accurately identify and categorize different types of non-ferrous metals, high-grade metals, and insulated copper wire.
Customer Service
- Help team members with assisting customers efficiently, providing exceptional service with a friendly and respectful demeanor.
Operational Efficiency
- Maintain an organized work area, prioritize tasks effectively, and achieve optimal productivity levels.
- Handle loads efficiently and safely, utilizing proper manual lifting techniques.
Safety Compliance
- Process non-ferrous metal according to prescribed standards.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications:
Experience and Knowledge
- Previous experience in a similar role within the scrap metal or recycling industry is considered a definite asset.
- Knowledge of different non-ferrous metals and their properties is an asset.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Keen eye for detail and high level of accuracy.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Physical ability to handle and move up to and including 50 lbs. safely.
Work Environment:
- This role involves working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Must be comfortable working in various weather conditions.
- Required to wear appropriate CSA approved, safety, steel toed boots with 6” ankle support and Grade 1 sole puncture protection and protective toe cap. (Green triangle). We supply gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection and coveralls.
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
