General Manager (Bakery & Café)
The Cookery is seeking an experienced General Manager for a full-time, year-round position at our busy bakery and café.
We are looking for a hands-on leader with strong Back of House (BOH) line experience and proven management skills. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of daily operations while building a positive team culture and maintaining high standards of quality, service, and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Manage all day-to-day bakery and café operations
- Lead, mentor, coach, and develop team members
- Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented workplace culture
- Create and manage employee schedules
- Recruit, hire, train, and onboard staff
- Food costing, menu pricing, and inventory control
- Order food, supplies, and kitchen essentials
- Monitor labour costs and overall profitability
- Ensure food quality, consistency, and presentation standards
- Maintain food safety and sanitation requirements
- Handle customer concerns and ensure exceptional guest experiences
- Delegate responsibilities effectively and hold team members accountable
- Manage social media, promotions, and marketing initiatives
- Create daily specials
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, sales, and customer satisfaction
- Lead by example and work alongside the team during busy service periods
Qualifications
- Previous management experience in a bakery, café, restaurant.
- BOH line experience is a must
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building abilities
- Proven ability to motivate, coach, and develop employees
- Experience with food costing, inventory management, and ordering
- Strong scheduling and labour management skills
- Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and perform under pressure
