Overview
CALTRAX is a full service independent railcar repair company providing service in Western Canada from two facilities located in Calgary and Raymond Alberta. We provide full service tank and freight car maintenance and repair, interior lining and cleaning, blast and paint. This position will be permanently based in Lethbridge with some travel required to Calgary for training.
We are seeking a mechanically inclined self starter who is creative, thinks outside the box and can work independently. To be successful in this role you must have previous experience working in the various Non-Destructive Testing disciplines. You must have a drive to succeed, be eager to implement change and ready to support a dynamic and growing team. Previous experience with the American Association of Railroads Regulations would be beneficial.
Responsibilities Include:
- Inspect railcars prior to and upon completion of repairs to identify and report deficiencies
- Conduct inbound, outbound and in-process quality assurance inspections on all railcar repair work completed
- Verify maintenance activities are in compliance with AAR regulation
- Ensure customer and governmental requirements are closely adhered to
- Complete necessary inspection documentation, verify documents per customer requirements
- Ensure deficiencies are rectified prior to releasing cars
- Spot check in-process repairs
- Perform inspections using various hand tools
- Work closely with Technical Service Manager and QA designee to identify deficiency trends or key areas that require attention and training
- Assist in preparation of annual audit process
- Performing work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Travel to customer locations as required
Requirements and Skills:
- This position requires previous mechanical experience. Railcar industry experience and knowledge would be beneficial in addition to the following:
- Ability to read blueprints
- Previous welding, mechanical or Millwright experience is recommended
- Good understanding of AAR, tank car maintenance regulatory requirements
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Comfortable working from heights and in confined spaces
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Use a respirator as required
- Attention to detail and highly organized
- Basic computer skills
- Working in all weather conditions
