Job Purpose
Aslan Technologies has a Project Engineer opportunity for engineers/technologists to join our team in Burlington, Ontario. The Project Engineer would be responsible for Quoting, designing, planning, and implementing projects related to water and wastewater treatment, chemical dosing … systems. They work in collaboration with a team of engineers and technicians to ensure the efficient and effective development of water and wastewater treatment facilities and chemical dosing equipment. This role requires technical expertise in engineering principles, environmental regulations, and project management.
Duties and Responsibilities

Design and develop water and wastewater treatment systems, including the selection and sizing of equipment, calculations, and hydraulic modelling.

Develop process schematics, PFDs, and P&IDs to ensure proper functionality and alignment with project requirements.

Conduct engineering evaluations and feasibility studies for water and wastewater projects, analyzing data and identifying potential issues or improvements.

Prepare detailed engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates for water and wastewater projects.

Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements.

Supervise and oversee the construction and installation of water and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.

Develop standards product designs, documentation, and specification sheets.

Perform field inspections and assessments of existing water and wastewater infrastructure to identify maintenance and improvement needs.

Research and stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in water and wastewater engineering.

Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and learning environment.

Develop and maintain project documentation, including timelines, budgets, drawings, and specifications.

Receives new technical inquiries, requests of proposals (RFPs), quote requests directly from different clients and leading Project Managers of Aslan Technologies. Most of the inquiries are in the form of process challenges.

Develop RO projections using RO design software

Analyze different water/wastewater chemistries to propose the best possible water treatment solution for the existing scenario.

Provide telephone support/assistance to the customers for onsite system issues.

Develop preliminary conceptual to detailed process design of industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment systems.

Design processes for sequencing batch reactors (SBRs), UF, RO, NF, and membrane bioreactors (MBRs).

Develop cost estimation, technical specifications, vendor, and contractor prequalification, procurement/tender support, and contract administration.

Write technical proposals by using fundamental chemical engineering knowledge for the new projects which are not as per Aslan’s standard product lines.

Develop piping and equipment layouts.

Write design briefs, control narratives and user operation and maintenance manuals for water and wastewater treatment plants.

Develop and perform quality control and commissioning checklists and procedures for water and wastewater treatment plants.

Discuss equipment design and operation with suppliers, consultants, customers, and operators.

Read and understand complex project specification packages from clients or consultants
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering with 5-7 years of experience in water and wastewater engineering field (or related engineering diploma with more experience)

Strong knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, including physical, chemical, and biological treatment methods.

Proficiency in using engineering software and tools, such as AutoCAD, hydraulic modelling software, and data analysis tools.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex engineering issues.

Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and engage with clients and stakeholders.

Knowledge of environmental regulations and permit requirements in relation to water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Attention to detail and accuracy in design calculations, cost estimates, and technical documentation.

Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to maintain project documentation and records systematically.

Willingness to travel to project sites and participate in site inspections and meetings as required.

Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office applications – Word, Access, and Excel.

“G” Driver’s license.
Work Environment

Manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to noise, grinding, vapor, dust and lubricants

Routinely required to use standard office equipment and expected to be proficient with a variety of computer programs, including MS Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
