Total Rewards is made up of Benefits, Compensation, Payroll and Pension areas that bring innovative practices from industry and health care jurisdictions into the context of Unity’s Human Resources Department. The primary role of Total Rewards is to research, establish, maintain, evaluate and implement a wide range of comprehensive and competitive compensation and benefits programs, structures and systems to assist in attracting, retaining, promoting and developing employees of high quality, ability and potential.
The primary role of the HOOPP Specialist is to support in ensuring Unity Health’s obligation in the administration of the Healthcare Of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) related to leaves of absences, current service purpose, lump sum payments, free accrual. This role will also support in identifying issues, correct reporting and problem resolution. Pension administration includes accurate reporting of employee and employer contributions and remittances. This position ensures that pension is administered in accordance with Government Legislation, Plan Texts, Master Contracts, HR Policies and Union Contracts.
Ensure compliance as it relates to contributions and reporting for HOOPP as per plan texts
Act as the lead resources to assess the pension workflow from the Total Rewards Counsellors (leaves, terminations, free accrual, retirements, etc ) to the Payroll Team
Completing bi-weekly HOOPP Uploads to facilitate and support the in-year reporting of member changes/transactions such as Enrollments, Leaves of Absences, Status Changes and Final Termination/Retirement Data. Investigating errors and warnings that occur as part of the upload(s) to ensure the proper reporting and data integrity of the member’s/employee’s HOOPP record.
Lead the complex monthly HOOPP reconciliation process
Ensure the payroll system accurately reflects current service purchases and free accruals.
Provide direction/support to payroll to ensure Ad Hoc Remittances are completed for prior year purchases and or reimbursements.
Liase with Pension providers (HOOPP) to problem solve enrolment, contribution and termination/retirement issues identified during monthly reconciliation.
Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with the pension plan In conjunction with the Benefits and Pension Specialist and the Payroll Specialist, support/assist with the annual HOOPP Member Data Collection process which includes reconciling all employee pension files through the investigation, correction, informing employees of changes/errors, and work closely with the payroll team.
Human Resources, Payroll or Business Degree, Certification, Diploma or combined experience required.
CHRP designation, CPA or CEBS an asset/preferred (or working towards completion).
Minimum 5 years of overall Human Resources (HR) and Technical knowledge, with 2-3 years working specifically as a content expert with HOOPP.

Good understanding of HR systems, MS Office suite and other tools to implement efficiencies in process and team resources, to enter data, etc. required;
