Job Description
The Personal Support Worker (PSW) provides direct personal care and support to residents in accordance with individual care plans, established policies, and applicable legislation. The successful candidate contributes to a safe, respectful, and resident focused environment while promoting dignity, independence, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, and feeding
· Deliver care in accordance with individualized care plans and established policies
· Observe, document, and report changes in resident condition to the appropriate regulated healthcare professional
· Perform delegated tasks under the supervision of a regulated healthcare professional when trained and authorized
· Administer medications and treatments in accordance with facility policy and applicable legislation where authorized and trained
· Maintain accurate documentation in resident records
· Respond promptly to call bells and emergency situations
· Provide emotional and social support to residents
· Assist with dining services and mealtimes as required
· Perform routine housekeeping, laundry, and environmental tasks as assigned
· Participate in infection prevention and control practices
· Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment
· Participate in fire safety, emergency preparedness, and mock disaster procedures
· Attend orientation, in services, training sessions, and staff meetings
· Report incidents and accidents in accordance with facility policy
· Assist with resident move ins and move outs as required
· Support orientation and mentoring of new staff as assigned
· Perform other duties as reasonably assigned
Requirements:
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
· Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
· Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
· Ability to work in a fast paced environment
· High level of professionalism, compassion, and customer service
· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
· Willingness to maintain current knowledge of best practices, policies, and procedures
· Availability to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays
· Bilingualism (English French) considered an asset
· GPA and NVCI certification considered an asset
Pre-Employment Requirements
In accordance with the Retirement Homes Act and site policy, employment is conditional upon satisfactory completion of:
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Required health clearances as per public health and site policy
- Proof of eligibility to work in Canada
Schedule
Must be available to work various shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends. Schedules are based on operational requirements and applicable legislation.
