Lead Role - After School Care Provider
Position Purpose & Overview
The After School Care Provider will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our After School Care Program. They will be responsible for managing resources, providing guidance to fellow after school care providers, and ensuring the effective compliance of all relevant regulations. Their role is pivotal in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for ordering/purchasing of after school care resources and materials.
- Provides feedback and guidance for fellow after school care providers.
- Ensures the After School Care Program complies with relevant legislation, procedures, and requirements, including hygiene, health and safety, and safeguarding regulations.
- Manages the planning and delivery of age appropriate play opportunities, ensuring they are carried out in a safe and caring environment for children.
- Maintain our timeline for collecting and transporting students from classrooms to after school care spaces.
- Maintains a positive and collaborative relationship with our teachers.
- Maintains accurate records and reporting related to enrolment, behaviour, and incidents.
- Monitors how resources are utilized to ensure the After School Care Program is running in the most efficient and effective manner.
- Undertakes such duties as may become necessary to ensure the successful running of the program.
- Direct interaction with students one-on-one.
- Actively engages with small or large groups of children in an interactive and supportive manner.
- Utilizes our resources (activities and games to actively engage our students).
- Work collaboratively and positively as a full after school care team.
- Reports to the Junior School Principal.
- Keep accurate up-to-date records as required by Coastal Health
This role will require working hours outside of school office hours: often evening events; occasionally going offsite to document student programs; and occasional morning and weekend commitments.

- Internal: All faculty and staff at the School, and students.
- External: All parents.
Job Information
- Part-time contract term from September 4th, 2024 to June 13th, 2025
- Work location: on-site.
- Hours of Work: 2:45PM to 5:30PM Monday to Friday.
- Hourly rate of $29.55.
Required Qualifications and Key Skills
Education & Work Experience
- Relevant post-secondary education such as Recreation, Childcare, or other relevant educational credentials.
- Completion of the Responsible Adult Certification (20 hour online course)
- 3+ years of related experience in child care and /or programs in development and delivery.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
- Experience managing a variety of childrens’ behaviours.
Qualities and Skills
- Excellent client services and interpersonal skills.
- Abilities to communicate effectively, both orally and written, with internal and external customers.
- Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment, and work as a positive and collaborative team member.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, a self-starter and the ability to work independently.
- Organized with the ability to work under deadlines with conflicting demands.
Conditions of Employment
- The successful candidate will be required to complete child abuse prevention training, concussion training, Level 1 first-Aid training provided by St. John’s School and provide consent for a criminal background check for vulnerable sector
- Clearance on criminal record check for vulnerable sector is a condition of employment
- Ability to legally work in Canada, in an educational setting is a condition of employment
