Overview
We are looking for a kind, patient, and compassionate individual to provide regular companionship and support to a non-verbal, bedridden senior living in a long-term care home in Orleans, Ottawa.
This role is primarily focused on providing friendly visits, emotional connection, and ensuring the resident feels cared for and supported. The ideal person will be comfortable spending quiet time with someone who may not be able to communicate verbally, while being attentive to their needs and comfort.
Responsibilities
- Visit the resident regularly (approximately 30 minutes per visit, 2-3 times per week on average, and up to 7 days a week when the resident's family is away) - schedule is flexible, and exact timing of visit can take place anytime throughout the day
- Provide friendly companionship and a reassuring presence
- Engage with the resident through conversation, reading, music, television, or simply spending time together
- Help ensure the resident is comfortable and has what he needs during the visit
- Assist with small personal comfort items, such as: Ensuring he is positioned comfortably in bed (within care guidelines); Brushing hair; Assisting with tooth brushing; Ensuring personal items are within reach; Checking that his iPad is working and available for use; feeding resident his lunch or snacks
- Observe and communicate any concerns or changes to appropriate care staff/family
Qualifications & Skills
- Warm, compassionate, and patient personality
- Comfortable spending time with a senior who is non-verbal and has limited mobility
- Reliable and respectful
- Able to provide gentle assistance with personal comfort needs
- Good communication skills and ability to be attentive to non-verbal cues
- Previous experience with seniors, caregiving, healthcare, or volunteering is an asset
- French language skills are an asset

Pay: $40.00 per hour
