SUMMARY JOB DESCRIPTION :
As the Kids Design Manager you will be responsible for actively managing the Children’s Design team: Girls, Boys and Newborn working very closely with the Children’s Design Director. You will be in charge of keeping the team on track to meet deliverables by managing calendar cadences, planning meetings, kicking off activities at the right time and monitoring the team’s progress. You will be responsible for proactively solving challenges that arise, making recommendations and initiating improvements to processes and teams’ workflow. You will be a point of contact for Design, managing relationships and expectations between cross-functional teams in our organization: Graphics, Product Development, Technical Design, Buying, Merchandising and Production teams. The Design manager is also the main liaison between the Toronto and New York offices ensuring constant communication and transparency.
The ideal Design manager is flexible and willing to support the team to meet their deliverables. They will have a solid background in Design understanding the complete life-cycle of the product, have a positive attitude, team leader spirit willing to work together with cross-functional partners to complete a season.
Manage Calendar deadlines:
- Being familiar with Developmental Calendar.
- Attending Calendar meetings as an advocate for Design timelines.
- For every season, plot deadlines for the team on the calendar and send out outlook invites.
Ensure constant communication with Director, team leads and Design team regarding deliverables for the week and progress.
Coordinating Design activities:
Season Development – The “Day to Day”:
- Being aware of the timelines for development for all teams, planning Design activities and milestones.
- Ensuring cross-functional teams have all info needed from Design in a timely manner. Ex. Coordinating Graphic passes, Tech Passes, Milestone meetings...
- With Design Director, manage special projects and help distribute workload amongst team.
Support Concept and Design Directors with Concept presentation tasks, involving team as needed.
Coordinate needs including:
Research, Color palette creation, sample purchase, presentation documents.
Set-up Pinterest boards and share with teams.
Set-up Teams channels for Season’s development.
Plan comp shopping and Store visit activities.
Collaborate with Design Director on Seasonal Research & Development for fabric and applications at the beginning of the season.
Manage fabric sourcing communications with Materials team:
Initiating sourcing requests, updates, communication with Materials team.
Monitor Sku plan fulfillment - making sure we account for all skus or replacements.
Assisting in coordinating, and attending Design Development meetings for all categories.
Help in overall alignment ex. Processes/Formats/Activity cadences/Designs between categories.
Coordinate Milestone meetings leading up to Executive reviews.
PLM Super-User – keep team in the loop of changes in workflow for PLM.
Collaborate with PLM team to find efficiencies.
Ensure visibility and fulfilment of Design 3D goals for the season.
Mentoring & Team development:
Provide mentorship and coaching to Design team members.
Maintain open and constant communication to ensure all team members are working towards their individual growth in the company.
Give guidance and support in problem solving.
A must have passion for apparel fashion.
Previous experience in Apparel Design is a must - Childrenswear preferred.
Excellent organizational, time management, communication skills.
A strong understanding of trends, colors, prints, fabrics and proportions.
Team Player attitude a must, self-starter who follows and delivers instructions well.
Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business and support the team in specific Design tasks when needed.
Must be proficient in:
Microsoft Office, Adobe: Illustrator and Photoshop, PLM – an asset. Knowledge of 3D software a plus.
