The Lindsay Cemetery Corporation is seeking an experienced, dependable, and hands-on Operations Foreman to oversee the day-to-day operations of our cemetery and crematorium.
This is a working leadership position responsible for coordinating staff, overseeing cemetery and crematorium operations, maintaining grounds and equipment, assisting families and funeral homes, and ensuring that all services are carried out safely, efficiently, professionally, and with dignity and respect.
The successful candidate will be comfortable leading a small team while also working directly in the field. This position requires someone who can balance leadership, equipment operation, customer service, administration, and hands-on cemetery operations.
Key Responsibilities - Operations & Team Leadership
- Oversee the daily operations of the cemetery and crematorium in conjunction with the General Manager.
- Provide direction, guidance and training to operations staff.
- Schedule and organize operational personnel and cremation activities.
- Ensure staff follow company policies, procedures, and applicable legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate with the General Manager regarding operational needs, staffing, equipment and resources.
- Ensure operational resources are used efficiently and effectively.
- Work closely with Sales and Administration to ensure the seamless delivery of cemetery and crematorium services.
- Ensure time-sensitive and priority tasks are completed within required deadlines.
Crematorium Operations
- Oversee and perform all aspects of crematorium operations.
- Receive, identify and safely handle caskets and cremation containers.
- Operate cremation equipment.
- Coordinate the order and scheduling of cremations.
- Process and package cremated remains accurately and respectfully.
- Ensure crematorium facilities, equipment and processing areas are maintained to a high standard.
- Assist funeral homes and families when they arrive at the facility.
Cemetery & Interment Operations
- Prepare graves and niches for casket and cremated remains interments.
- Accurately locate and identify grave and niche locations.
- Safely open and close graves and niches.
- Operate backhoes, tractors, trailers, hydraulic shoring and other cemetery equipment.
- Install crypts and burial vaults as required.
- Prepare gravesites and ensure they are safe and properly presented for services.
- Assist funeral directors and families during interments.
- Receive and process required documentation.
Memorial Installation & Foundations
- Coordinate and perform memorial installations, including bronze, flat and upright memorials.
- Accurately locate and identify sites for memorial and foundation installations.
- Operate the necessary machinery, tools and equipment.
- Prepare and pour concrete foundations.
- Coordinate with outside memorial companies regarding incoming memorials and inscriptions.
- Ensure required paperwork and approvals are completed.
- Prepare work orders for field staff.
- Create contracts and collect applicable setting, foundation, care and maintenance fees.
- Ensure applicable Care and Maintenance Fees are properly submitted to the appropriate fund.
Grounds, Buildings & Equipment Maintenance
- Oversee and perform cemetery grounds maintenance, including:
- Mowing, sodding and seeding
- Pruning, trimming, planting and watering
- Roadway and infrastructure maintenance
- Snow clearing and seasonal maintenance
- Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of the crematorium and chapel.
- Maintain cremation and processing equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment.
- Assist with opening and closing the cemetery water system and related maintenance.
- Ensure cemetery and crematorium supplies and operational materials are adequately stocked and purchase supplies as required.
Floral Program
- Coordinate the annual floral program.
- Assist with recording yearly orders.
- Order flowers as required.
- Provide field staff with appropriate flower sheets and maintenance tags.
Administrative Support
- Assist with cremation and burial documentation.
- Prepare contracts as required.
- Assist with programming, formatting and other administrative tasks as required.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least one year of experience in the cemetery or funeral industry.
- Previous backhoe and machinery experience — mandatory.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and administrative abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to lead, train and work effectively with a small operations team.
- The ability to work independently while keeping management informed.
- A professional, respectful and compassionate approach when working with families and funeral professionals.
- The ability to remain calm and professional in emotionally sensitive situations.
- A strong understanding of confidentiality, professionalism and ethical standards.
- A willingness to learn and participate in extensive training.
Education
- Minimum Grade 12 education combined with significant cemetery experience.
- A college diploma or university degree is considered an asset.

Work Schedule & Availability
This position requires:
- Full-time availability.
- Overtime as required.
- On-call availability as required.
- Occasional evenings, weekends and holidays depending on operational needs.
- Flexibility to assist with other duties in a small-team environment.
