Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Applications Engineer to join our Product Development team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining expert level knowledge related to Sightline/KPM industrial vision inspection and automation equipment and applying this knowledge to ensure the successful development, deployment, and ongoing support of these products. The ideal candidate will bring experience within industrial automation and machine vision, as well as possess a strong electrical/mechanical aptitude.
Responsibilities
System Setup, Testing, and Documentation
- Build, setup and test vision systems for customer and/or internal needs
- Monitor and inspect system assemblies during production
- Create and utilize test setups to assess new product development concepts and/or product improvements
- Execute in-house and on-site research and development testing
- Create and present documentation related to production/setup processes, tests results, and related activities
Site Work
- Travel to customer sites around the globe, primarily US and Canada
- Completing mechanical assembly and electrical work
- Coordinating equipment installation with local contractors and customer employees
- Commissioning vision systems and associated products
- Revising documentation to reflect As-Built revisions
- Providing training to customers
Interdepartmental and Customer Support
- Act as a technical resource in support of KPM and Sightline engineering, support, and production teams
- Act as an expert on the subject matter related to Sightline software, providing input and documentation as needed to support other departments and customers
Sales and Marketing Support
- Travel to tradeshows and customer sites for demonstrations
- Develop demonstrations showcasing new features and system capabilities
- Test new products and identify potential market opportunities
Project Management
- Communicate with customers and internal departments to monitor project status and facilitate project completion
- Create and maintain project timelines, system documentation, and customer information records
Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements:
Formal Education and Training
- Degree in engineering or aligned technical discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, preferred)
Experience
- Hands-on electrical, controls and mechanical experience is an asset
- Experience with machine vision, imaging, and/or optics is an asset
- Experience with complex electromechanical systems is an asset
- Experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment is an asset
Other Key Skills/Knowledge
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- High proficiency in use of computers
- Programming/IT experience is an asset.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally to customer sites is required
- Travel requirement: up to 30%
