Reporting to the Executive Advisor, Marketing, the Manager will build and preserve the University's reputation through a variety of internal and external marketing techniques, including digital media. This position is responsible for planning the implementation of proactive marketing programs. The Manager is a dynamic and experienced marketer and project manager, responsible for the successful integration and execution of University priorities.
Provides a leadership role in the development, implementation and management of marketing programs which is instrumental in the University’s ability to achieve its objectives
Proactive role in ensuring all members of the senior executive team receive timely, reliable and measured advice and successfully implemented programs for internal and external issues
In partnership with University Advancement and Communication and Public Affairs, this role is responsible for relationship development with the University’s key audiences and partners such as faculty, staff, students, media, alumni, supporters, government and the community
Manages the successful development of marketing strategies on a wide range of University/Faculty issues
Responsible for the development of programs that will facilitate increased understanding of goals, objectives, and successes by increasing the University’s profile with key internal and external audiences
Manages and prepares a variety of forms of internal and external communications including print, digital, broadcast
Assists with preparing and producing special and strategic marketing materials
Provides leadership in the development of marketing strategies
Represents the University to key internal and external audiences
Develops and manages a comprehensive and proactive marketing program including media training, storytelling and reputation development
Acts as a University spokesperson, as required
Implements the University’s crisis management communication plan as part of the communication crisis management team
Creates, implements and evaluates the effectiveness of all related projects
Identifies and develops opportunities for senior officers to maximize effective communication
University degree (a McMaster degree is an asset)
4-5 years experience in a similar position
Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills
Demonstrated exceptional research and writing skills
Sound judgement and decision-making
Demonstrated success in areas of media relations, strategic internal and external communications, marketing and branding, social media
Understanding of diverse media channels including new media and evolving digital environments
Demonstrated knowledge of marketing environment in the public sector
Ability to lead teams and effectively contribute to a team
Excellent oral communication skills
Proven track record in strategic planning
Acumen with the higher education sector is an asset
