POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Research and Academics, the Librarian will maintain a comprehensive, clinical reference library, suitable for the requirement of the Centre’s varied professional and management staff and work as part of a team delivering information services and supporting evidence-based practice in patient care, health education and clinical research by conducting in-depth reference services and literature searches; developing and providing workshops related to research and critical appraisal; and establishing current awareness services. The Librarian provides clinical library services, engages in health information literacy, supports research, and promotes the library’s services and the collection staff, affiliated physicians, residents, students, patients and caregivers.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides reference services which involves interviewing, interpreting requirements, and establishing level and detail of information needed to staff and students
- Responsible for conducting expert literature searches and the subsequent synthesis, analysis, editing and filtering of information to meet clients’ needs
- Provides knowledge synthesis consultations
- Responsible for development/maintenance of a database to maintain copyright information for scales and instruments
- Provides marketing and promotion of library services to clients and staff
- Actively engages in planning, collection development, special projects and best practice improvement initiatives
- Using the integrated library system (ILS) loans materials and maintains/updates borrower accounts
- Arranges interlibrary loans for items not owned by the Library, and completes interlibrary loan requests from other libraries through DOCLINE;
- Performs core library services such as cataloguing according to the National Library of Medicine and Library of Congress classification standards;
- Advising on library budget and subscription renewals
- Prepares statistical reports of usage of Library resources and functions;
- Prepares and delivers education sessions to enhance information research skills and prepares and disseminates online/electronic training materials and tools
- Participates on Hospital committees and councils
- Consult with departments on acquisition and renewal of electronic and print subscriptions and resources
- Maintain an awareness of new literature and research developments in areas of mental health, applied mental health and recovery, and specialization in emerging trends in health sciences libraries
- Remain apprised of methodological advances in the area of best practices in literature search and related knowledge synthesis activities (e.g. systematic reviews, rapid reviews)
- Support patient use of Library including assistance with computer and printer use
- Oversees Library volunteers;
- Manages and produces publication of open access journal (Journal of Recovery in Mental Health) with an emphasis on:
- strict adherence to publication cycle timelines;
- timely communication with section editors, authors and reviewers; and
- coordination of high quality article production and formatting from submission to publication.
- Supports the organizational online learning management system (LMS) including tasks such as:
- troubleshooting user accounts,
- performing system maintenance,
- working closely with the IT department to address system issues;
- overseeing system administration; and
- liaising with the LMS vendor to perform system maintenance and fix issues.
- Performs other duties as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Accredited Master's degree in library/information sciences
- Experience working in a health sciences library
- Experience in systematic literature searches
- Proficient with biomedical databases such as PsycINFO, Medline and other electronic health information resources
- Advanced computer skills and experience with DOCLINE
- Initiative, accountability, creativity and outstanding written, verbal and presentation skills
