Grimebusters Ltd. is looking for an experienced Lead Hand – Restoration to join our team. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands restoration, construction materials, jobsite safety, and the expectations involved in mould and asbestos-related work.
The ideal candidate is an experienced restoration professional who can lead a crew, make good decisions in the field, communicate with clients and Project Managers, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and work alongside restoration technicians on residential and commercial projects.
- Coordinate daily work activities and ensure crews understand the scope of work.
- Read and understand work scopes, estimates, drawings, and project instructions.
- Identify common construction materials and understand how they respond to water, mould, demolition, and restoration.
- Perform and oversee water mitigation, demolition, cleaning, contents handling, and restoration activities.
- Assist with mould remediation projects and ensure appropriate containment, PPE, engineering controls, and work procedures are followed.
- Assist with asbestos-related projects and understand asbestos hazards, controls, procedures, and when specialized workers or contractors are required.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, containment, negative air, air scrubbers, HEPA equipment, and other restoration equipment.
- Identify potential hazards and communicate concerns to the Project Manager.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
- Train, coach, and support Restoration Technicians and newer team members.
- Ensure technicians are working efficiently and following company SOPs.
- Communicate job progress, issues, material requirements, and additional scope to the Project Manager.
- Maintain accurate daily documentation, photographs, time tracking, equipment records, and jobsite notes.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, tenants, property managers, insurance representatives, and other contractors.
- Help coordinate trades and subcontractors when required.
- Perform quality-control checks before leaving the jobsite.
- Identify potential change orders or additional work and communicate them before proceeding whenever possible.
- Operate company vehicles and restoration equipment as required.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on restoration, construction, or related experience.
- Strong understanding of residential and commercial construction materials and building assemblies.
- Previous experience leading or supervising a restoration crew.
- Practical experience with water damage restoration and demolition.
- Experience with mould remediation and containment procedures.
- Experience working around asbestos-containing materials and understanding asbestos hazards and required controls.
- Strong understanding of jobsite safety and PPE requirements.
- Ability to identify hazards and stop work when conditions are unsafe.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean or acceptable driving record.
- Physically capable of performing restoration work, including lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in challenging environments.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while also leading a team.
- Professional appearance and attitude.
Assets
- Previous Lead Hand, Crew Lead, Foreman, or Supervisor experience.
- IICRC certifications or training.
- Asbestos awareness/worker training applicable to the work being performed.
- Mould remediation training.
- WHMIS 2015.
- First Aid/CPR.
- Fall Protection.
- Confined Space training.
- Experience with Encircle, CompanyCam, Jobber, or other restoration documentation systems.
- Experience working with insurance restoration projects and Xactimate.
