Position Summary
This is not a traditional drafting role.
We are looking for someone who wants to be actively involved in the design, development, modification, and improvement of specialized vehicle systems and equipment.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, technicians, fabricators, and program managers to develop designs that move beyond the computer screen and become real-world products, upgrades, and operational solutions.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to projects ranging from vehicle modifications and structural components to custom equipment, integration systems, and future product development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks
- Develop designs for vehicle modifications, components, assemblies, and support equipment
- Produce engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Assist with prototype development and design refinement
- Participate in design reviews and technical meetings
Product Improvement
- Support ongoing modernization and upgrade programs
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturability, reliability, and maintainability
- Collaborate with technicians and fabricators to optimize designs for production
- Assist with root cause analysis and engineering problem-solving
Engineering Support
- Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Maintain engineering records and revision control
- Assist in preparing technical reports and presentations
- Support configuration management activities
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards
Shop & Prototype Collaboration
- Work directly with fabrication and maintenance teams
- Support prototype builds and testing activities
- Assist in validating designs during manufacturing and installation
- Incorporate field feedback into future revisions
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in engineering OR an equivalent combination of education and 4+ years of of SolidWorks experience
- Strong 3D modelling and technical drawing skills
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and fabrication techniques
- Experience creating detailed production drawings
- Strong attention to detail
Preferred
- Experience with vehicle systems or mobile equipment
- Experience with welded structures and sheet metal design
- Knowledge of machining and fabrication processes
- Experience with PDM systems
- FEA experience
- Defence, aerospace, automotive, or heavy equipment experience
- Controlled Goods Program eligibility
