Why is this role important?
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Agile Centre of Excellence (Agile CoE), the Senior Agile Coach will coach, train, lead and support portfolio delivery teams through the end-to-end delivery lifecycle, building capabilities, providing guidance about the choices available, making recommendations, and encouraging and empowering the teams to consider the options available and make their own choices.
Utilizing their demonstrated Scrum experience, the Agile Coach will leverage their in-depth knowledge of Agile and Scrum best practices and demonstrated experience in delivering in Scrum to provide hands-on training and coaching to support the ongoing LCL Agile transformation, training and coaching multiple, cross-functional delivery teams across LT, including Scrum Masters, architects, developer, testers and key members of the Business, how to deliver effectively utilizing the Scrum framework at Loblaw
As a certified Scrum Master, provide guidance, best practices and support throughout the Loblaw Agile Delivery Framework delivery lifecycle, across all Scrum roles, training and coaching Scrum teams on key ceremonies and deliverables, arming the Scrum Masters with best practices in portfolio prioritization, story mapping, user story creation, sprint and release planning, retrospectives, etc. to ensure successful delivery of key initiatives
Support the Loblaw Technology accelerated outcomes journey, increasing collaboration, innovation, and introducing techniques that promote adaptability and flexibility in the face of unpredictable circumstances
Act as an agile subject matter expert to instill a culture of measurement with respect to both the impact of the change to the business and the effectiveness of the system of delivery
Arm delivery teams with the right knowledge, tools and training so that they’ll be able to use agile to its full potential
Educate delivery teams to apply agile and lean thinking, tools and techniques to increase velocity and deliver value sooner
Work with the delivery teams as to how they may best adapt Loblaw processes, frameworks and tools to deliver quickly with quality, based on the minimum viable product to meet the individual needs of each initiative
Provide guidance and council to your portfolios as to how they may truly embed and adopt the new way of working into their day-to-day activities so that they do not revert back to past processes and approaches
Coach, support and lead your portfolio delivery teams through the end-to-end delivery lifecycle, building delivery team capabilities, providing guidance about the choices available, making recommendations, and encouraging and empowering the teams to consider the options available and make their own choices
Help navigate common roadblocks and pain points, ensuring the delivery teams are fully functioning and positioned for success
Govern the application of key Loblaw delivery principles to ensure consistency and compliance against required standards
Facilitate project retrospectives, leveraging lessons learned, utilizing this knowledge throughout current and future initiatives
Assist in the onboarding and training of delivery team members, ensuring that they know who to go to for what, when and how
Develop highly effective working relationships based on trust; improving collaboration within portfolios, across portfolios and across divisions
Build personal ties to develop a common understanding
Promote open, candid and ongoing communication
Identify key team dynamics and differences, working to identify how to leverage what is complementary about them
Foster a culture of ongoing learning
Support the evolution of the LT roadmap, representing the corporate vision by acting as a champion for change, leading and supporting the LT team through an evolving organization, operational model, and governance structure
Skills, Experience & Education
Demonstrated experience training, coaching and supporting teams in agile adoption
Proven expertise in agile techniques, including Scrum and Kanban
Working knowledge of Dev/Ops and CI/CD principles and toolsets and test automation
Proven experience in leveraging project delivery methodologies including waterfall, iterative, incremental and Agile
Proficiency in the use of project management tools, i.e., Clarity, Jira,
Ability to recognize symptoms that indicate problems and mitigate and manage risk appropriately
Demonstrated sense of ownership and commitment and the ability to drive issues to closure
Capability to contribute to the decision-making needed to introduce technology and process change/transformation into an IT organization and the associated business community
A knowledge of adult learning, organizational change management and developmental approaches that will result in performance improvement is desirable
Relationship Alliance Building – A track record of building strong relationships
Planning and Organizing – Experience managing business expectations, leading project review meetings, managing and setting priorities as appropriate
Communication Skills – Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication and documentation skills
Continuous improvement – Demonstrated excellence in the areas of career progression, professional development and/or workplace innovation
3+ years of demonstrated experience leading teams in the adoption of agile techniques and toolsets within a complex multi-stakeholder organization
3+ years Scrum Master experience
3+ years of experience in leading scaled agile planning and delivery
Certificates, Licenses or Registration
Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master Certification
Nice to have:
Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)
Previous experience working as an Agile Coach
PMI-ACP, Cert.APM or equivalent designation
