The Youth Addiction and Forensic Mental Health portfolio is looking for a skilled, enthusiastic, and experienced candidate to join Edmonton Protection for Abusing Drugs Safehouse in the role of Family Counsellor. The PChAD Program is a court-ordered detoxification and assessment program for youth aged 12-17 years who are harmfully involved in substance use. Youth are confined in a Protective Safe House for a maximum period of 10 days to safely withdraw from substances, undergo a comprehensive assessment of their use, and receive recommendations on voluntary options post-discharge. The Family Counsellor role within the Program is dynamic, evolving, and a key clinical position within Edmonton’s Youth Addiction Inpatient Programs. We are looking for an innovative and creative clinical professional who can enhance and further develop an established and reputable treatment service. In this role, you will be responsible for family counselling, program development, group facilitation, and mentoring the frontline Addiction Counselling staff in family-centered practice. Your knowledge of Family Systems approaches, adolescent developmental issues, substance use and concurrent disorders, as well as strong consultation, facilitation and teamwork skills are essential for your success. You will collaborate with families and professionals in the community and must have an awareness and familiarity with the provincial continuum of addiction and mental health services for youth and families. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a 24/7 treatment environment as well as an understanding of family centered care.
As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
A master’s degree in Social Sciences, combined with a minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a treatment environment. Active or eligible for registration with applicable professional association or college. A minimum of 2 years' experience providing direct family counseling, preferably within an addiction and/or mental health setting. Suicide Prevention training, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and First Aid/BLS are required. A strong ability to work with other professionals is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to those with a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology or Marriage and Family Therapy. Demonstrates knowledge in Trauma Informed Care and Collaborative Problem Solving. Experience delivering staff training is an asset.
