Position Summary:
The Instructional Designer gives leadership to the design and development of courses that provide an engaging learning experience in online and/or blended learning environments by serving as a consultant to faculty members who provide content expertise. The Instructional Designer will play an important role in the provision of core services as part of the TWU Integrated Partnership Online-Delivery System (IPODS) in a timely fashion to meet the financial, programmatic, and marketing requirements of the TWU Strategic Plan.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Consult with faculty subject matter experts and academic program directors to develop online and blended courses that provide effective, inquiry-based learning experiences to meet specified course learning outcomes;
  • Provide efficient and effective project management for the development of online and blended courses to meet the objectives of the TWU Strategic Plan;
  • Practice appropriate project documentation and file management procedures to minimize error;
  • Guide the development of course-level learning outcomes in alignment with program and institutional outcomes;
  • Create or adapt course assessments in alignment with course, program and institutional outcomes;
  • Ensure timely and professional communication with all stakeholders related to course development;
  • Identify cost effective digital media resources for creation, adaptation, or use to support student learning and ensure that the development of resources is cost effective, efficient to deploy and maintain, and scalable over time;
  • Ensure copyright permissions are secured as necessary;
  • Collaborate with the Equity of Access office at TWU to support the development of a digital learning environment that is accessible and inclusive for students and faculty who experience learning challenges.

Job Standards & Requirements:
Education:
Master’s degree in online education, instructional design, or a relevant discipline;

Experience

  • Experience in leading instructional design projects in higher education;
  • Experience building highly interactive, inquiry-based, community-oriented courses in non-traditional digital learning environments;
  • Experience in Business or project management where timelines, cost controls, and bottom line results were expected and achieved;
  • Experience working with multiple course development projects simultaneously;
  • Experience with a wide variety of digital learning environments (e.g. Moodle, WordPress, MediaWiki, web conferencing);
  • Experience creating or adapting digital media assets for use in digital learning environments

  • Clear understanding of and support for the roles of teaching and learning in an online educational context;
  • Proficient in navigating and administering digital learning environments;
  • Able to provide leadership, direction, coaching and support;
  • Strong attention to detail
