Job Overview
Responsible for carrying out daily warehouse tasks in compliance with SOPs while contributing to the efficiency of daily operations. This role's primary focus is operating a standard forklift for material handling, put-away, and order picking, with additional responsibility for operating a 10-ton overhead fixed bridge crane to assist with loading specialized products onto flatbed trailers. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Duties
Forklift Operation
- Move merchandise from one place to another using a standard sit-down forklift.
- Operate other mechanical devices and/or controls that operate lifting devices, such as lifting rolls and pallets.
- Load, unload, and move merchandise using the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Inspect products to be moved for accuracy and safely move them to the correct location using a RF Scanner.
- Load and offload trucks using the RF Scanner.
- Ensure coordination of incoming and outgoing trucks.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Carry out various warehouse and logistics duties including shipping, receiving, material handling, and inventory control using powered material handling equipment, with a primary focus on material put-away and order picking.
Crane Operation
- Operate a 10-ton overhead fixed bridge crane, as needed, to lift and transfer specialized products onto flatbed trailers for outbound shipment.
- Select, inspect, and attach appropriate rigging hardware (slings, chains, shackles) suitable for each load, never exceeding the crane's 10-ton rated capacity.
- Communicate clearly with spotters, riggers, and dock personnel using standard hand signals or two-way radio during all crane lifts.
- Position specialized products on flatbeds correctly to meet load distribution, overhang, and securement requirements.
- Perform pre-operational inspections of the overhead crane (hoist, hooks, wire ropes, limit switches, pendant controls) prior to use and report any deficiencies immediately.
- Maintain accurate crane operation and inspection logs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
General Warehouse Duties
- Ensure the facility is clean and maintained throughout your shift.
- Ability to read and understand company SOPs.
- Report any problems to your direct supervisor to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
- Ensure the practice of Health and Safety on a daily basis, for both forklift and crane operations.
- Be cross-trained, flexible, and able to move between forklift and crane duties as demands and priorities change.
- Show professionalism every day toward all departments, staff, carriers, customers, and drivers.
- Maintain a positive, motivated, and focused attitude at all times.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of overhead crane operating experience in a warehouse environment preferred
- 3+ years of warehouse experience
- 3+ years of forklift operating experience
- Relevant experience working in a warehouse environment, including flatbed loading, is preferred
- Ability to independently handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
- Strong spatial awareness and precision when operating lifting equipment.
