Lerners is seeking a Law Clerk to support estate litigation within our Dispute Resolution & Advocacy practice group in the London, Ontario office. The ideal candidate will have over 5 (five) years of experience working in a similar position. This is a Hybrid position and requires a minimum of 3 days in office or as required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintaining an effective bring forward (BF) system in ACL;
- Drafting correspondence, including: emails, pleadings, documents, reporting letters;
- Receiving, organizing and reviewing client documents;
- Working with the eDiscovery team to ensure documents are scanned/loaded and coded in Relativity;
- Review of/coding and working with documents within Relativity database to produce Affidavit of Documents, etc.;
- Scheduling Examinations for Discovery and preparing and serving Notices of Examination;
- Summarizing transcripts and working with client to prepare responses to undertakings;
- Compiling/preparing/serving/filing pleadings, motion records, application records, briefs, trial records, bookmarked pdf’s, etc.;
- All aspects of trial preparation;
- Drafting Costs Outlines/Bills of Costs;
- Meeting with clients to obtain particulars regarding guardianship application files and other matters;
- Drafting Notices of Application/Motion, Affidavits, Guardianship Plans, Management Plans, Judgments/Orders, etc. regarding guardianship applications and arranging capacity assessments;
Qualifications:
- At least 5 (five) years of experience as a Law Clerk in litigation.
- Experience in estate litigation is an asset.
- A keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- A strong work ethic.
- The ability to work effectively on a team and individually.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with technology and working in a remote/ hybrid environment.
- Experience with Relativity, Case Center, ACL, and a Document Management System (iManage) is an asset.
