Employment Opportunity: Indigenous Youth Program Coordinator
NOTE: In addition to your resume a cover letter is mandatory to be considered.
The Antigonish Women’s Resource Centre & Sexual Assault Services Association (AWRCSASA) is seeking applications for an Indigenous Youth Program Coordinator for the Healthy Relationships for Youth (HRY) Program—a peer-facilitated violence prevention program delivered in schools across Nova Scotia. With funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada, HRY is planning to expand into Indigenous community settings. Building on work already underway, the successful candidate will continue to strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities, gather community feedback, refine program resources and curriculum, and support the implementation of HRY programming in collaboration with youth, educators, and community partners.
The Indigenous Youth Program Coordinator will be responsible for the overall co-ordination of the delivery of the HRY program in First Nations communities. Specifically, this will include:
● leading focus groups with Indigenous youth to gain feedback and update the HRY curriculum;
● creating opportunities for elders to give input on the HRY program;
● updating the HRY curriculum in consultation with interested parties;
● promoting the HRY program in First Nations communities in Mi’kma’ki, and overseeing its coordination;
● facilitating and delivering the program in community settings, in collaboration with local partners and participants;
● developing detailed work plans and time frames for program coordination;
● coordinating program evaluation;
● working closely with regional coordinators to revise curriculum, resource, and presentation materials;
The successful candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:
● an undergraduate degree in Education, Women’s Studies, Social Work, or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and experience;
● experience with program coordination, participatory facilitation, and youth work;
● a feminist and culturally relevant analysis of violence prevention;
● experience with anti-racism work and understanding of systemic racism and its impacts;
● excellent organizational skills;
● strong report writing skills and excellent inter-personal communication and networking skills;
● proven ability to work independently, to take initiative, and to be accountable.
Travel, as well as occasional evening and weekend work, will be required. This is a part-time, one-year term position offered on a hybrid or remote basis (depending on organizational needs), with the potential for extension or transition to full-time, subject to funding and organizational priorities. Due to travel expectations, preference will be given applicants residing in the Antigonish, Guysborough, Pictou and Cape Breton areas. The position is eligible for health and dental benefits after a waiting period. The role is 25 hours per week with a wage of $25.40 per hour.
The AWRCSASA is committed to being a workplace that is free of discrimination, that values diversity, and that has a staff that is representative of the people and communities we serve. This position involves working closely with Indigenous youth and communities. As such, preference will be given to qualified Indigenous applicants (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis).
