About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Supply Chain Buyer / Planner to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for purchasing raw materials, components, and production supplies to support manufacturing operations. You will work closely with suppliers, production teams, engineering, accounting, and logistics partners to ensure material availability, optimize inventory levels, and drive continuous improvement within the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Order raw materials, components, and production supplies based on production requirements, shortage reports, and business needs.
- Ensure materials are ordered accurately and delivered on time to support production schedules.
- Follow up on past-due purchase orders and missing supplier acknowledgements.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships through effective communication and collaboration.
- Serve as a liaison between internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Accounting, and Supply Chain teams to resolve supply, process, and cost issues.
- Respond promptly to inquiries regarding incoming materials, shortages, and delivery status.
- Monitor supplier performance related to quality, cost, and delivery and provide feedback for supplier performance metrics.
- Utilize ERP systems to support inventory management, planning activities, and schedule optimization.
- Coordinate with logistics providers to ensure cost-effective and timely movement of materials.
- Prepare data analysis and reporting to support supply chain decision-making and cost reduction initiatives.
- Participate in obsolete inventory reduction and action planning.
- Support sourcing and cost reduction projects.
- Identify and pursue alternative sourcing opportunities where appropriate.
- Maintain standard cost reporting for Accounting.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure minimum stock and safety stock requirements are maintained.
- Coordinate sample orders and new component quotation requests with Engineering.
- Source components and materials throughout North America, including support for sister companies.
- Monitor open orders and adjust delivery schedules through pull-ins and push-outs as required.
Qualifications
Required:
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Commerce, Logistics or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in purchasing, materials planning, inventory control, or supply chain operations within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
Preferred:
- Professional Supply Chain designation or working toward a designation
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and inventory management practices.
- Experience with supplier performance management and cost reduction initiatives.
